Put on your red ruby slippers (remember there's no shoe designer like Paul Mayer, there's no shoe designer like Paul Mayer, Wizard of Shoes) and click your heels because it's time to get excited about a fabulous great book: Emeralds of Oz by Peter Guzzardi!  Harper Collins has published another winner, and we love that they follow us on Twitter (you should follow them too.) Today starts summer, so start your summer reading.  This can be read any time of year and we believe in time it will prove to be a classic, just like the Wizard of Oz.  Note this author is in Chapel Hill, alma mater of the fabulous Charles Kuralt (applause!  see picture to the right.  Everyone writing online should have a solid journalism background.)

Everyone has seen the Wizard of Oz.

We've thought about it many times, and watched it many times.  We've even read all of the Oz books more than once.  However, in all of this perusal of this subject, we have never seen it the way Peter Guzzardi sees it, and perhaps, he will enlighten you too with his emerald wisdom: it's a clever memoir sharing his acquired wisdom in exact relation to the Wizard of Oz movie.

You'll first notice the book design is stellar, and it is the best inside cover we've ever seen: Sparkling Emerald.

What do we love?
Let us count the merits.  In emerald.
*Peter's acute observation of balance achieved with scary and slapstick
*Yes: there are no mistakes, only lessons
*Tenacity and Grit wins
*Yes: showing up is at least half the battle
*Awesome people are curious
*Boundaries matter
*You already possess what you desire most
*People are only as good as their word
*It's all about the shoes.  We have four shoe columns....

These maxims and more are beautifully embellished by discussion and relevance to both the movie and your life.  This book makes a fantastic gift as well as a notable waiting room or coffee table read.  Of course, it is an absolutely stellar graduation present.

Leave your life.  Go over the rainbow and make it better!
See the world through green-colored glasses.  Who needs rose.
Emeralds of Oz is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.

In the bestselling tradition of All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten comes EMERALDS OF OZ: Life Lessons from Over the Rainbow (Harper Wave) by Peter Guzzardi. It’s an uplifting treasure trove of life lessons drawn from one of the most beloved movies of all time. Published in synchrony with the 80th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, EMERALDS OF OZ is also timely with its advice, as we make the journey alongside Dorothy from helpless to powerful, from fearful to courageous, from bewildered by illusion to fully aware of life’s deepest truths.

Peter Guzzardi spent decades as an editor working with some of the brightest minds of our time—from Stephen Hawking to Deepak Chopra, from Carol Burnett to Douglas Adams —yet he couldn’t shake the feeling that their genius felt oddly familiar. One day, he had an epiphany. All that wisdom had its roots in a film he’d watched as a child: The Wizard of Oz.

Following the arc of this beloved movie from Kansas to Oz and back again, Guzzardi becomes our guide, pointing out gems of insight large and small about longing, joy, compassion, fear, power, and faith in ourselves that open our eyes to a new way of navigating the world. At the heart of the book Guzzardi identifies nine principle Emeralds of Wisdom. Once activated by our awareness they work together to form a magical self-help tool for addressing whatever obstacles we’re facing on our own yellow brick road.

Written with the grace and insight of It’s Not Easy Being Green or The World According to Mister Rogers, EMERALDS OF OZ taps into the wisdom embedded in The Wizard of Oz to help us step into our very best lives.
