It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and if you find yourself here, you must agree that pizza is one big reason to live in Manhattan.  So is the Upper East Side!  And when they come together as magnificently as they do at Zazzy's, it is cause for celebration.  On July 23, 2021 Zazzy's opened at 1477 Second Avenue on the Upper East Side, making it the third Zazzy's.  All three have the same menu; in November of 2020 the Lower East Side Zazzy's opened and in February of 2021 the West Village Zazzy's opened.  With majority owner Jon Gabel at the helm as the founder, Zazzy's brings pizza to a new level with Master Pizzaiolo and Operating Partner Domenico Tolomeo, head pizza maker.

Previously, Domenico Tolomeo was a butcher for 15 years on Long Island, and this carnivorous delight is a symphony of sweet fennel sausage, imported hot sopressata from Calabria (where Domenico's Dad is from, and his Mom is from Naples), 50/50 Pork and Beef Meatballs and Pepperoni.  We have NEVER had a more delicious meat pizza ever.  And in over 26,000 posts you know we have eaten a lot of pizza.
Vegans and Vegetarians you are clearly missing out, but you should also know there is a lot for you to enjoy on this menu too so check it out.

Domenico also has been a Capo Pizzaiolo which is like a Sous Chef for Pizza at the famous Keste Pizza from 2018-2020.
The Caesar Salad is Vegan: there is no anchovy and they graciously put the croutons and dressing on the side as picky Peachy asked.  It was exactly what we are looking for in a salad, but as time goes on we hope to see many more green salad options of the classic variety.
We always order a large plain cheese to see how the basic pizza is, and we can assure you there is absolutely nothing basic about any of their pizzas we tried.  We don't write about the ordinary: we write on the extraordinary for those that have multiple taste levels in all areas of lifestyle.  The tomatoes are by Ciao from Naples and bien sur mes amies they are San Marzano.  (Peachy took six years of French because she started learning from French Canadian hockey players but she is upping her Italian game currently with Gianfranco and Company at Grupo Italiano.)  The cheese combination is a 50/50 wet/dry mix of perfection by Bel Gioioso and of course that brand, which we have not reviewed but have seen at trade shows, invited Domenico to their opening of their New York state facility in Syracuse.  The cheese is 50 percent fior de latte and 50 percent shredded mozzarella.  All we have to say is that it is 100% delicious.  The crust is like eating a fresh cloud you just plucked out of the sky and is made with Caputo Flour and femented for three days.  All large pizzas are 18 inches.  Also for everyone that loves The Recording Academy for as much as we do - you should know they have great music at Zazzy's which we obviously don't require but is nice to have.  The 80's mix we heard made your ears dance along with your tastebuds and stomach.
All pizza automatically comes with generous fresh basil and grana padano cheese.
Words do not do justice to the freshness of this pizza.
We would not trust any delivery service to be as amazing as you yourself going in and experiencing the high level of freshness that you will immediately devour.  If you order delivery you are depriving yourself of the opportunity to pounce on it when it is inches away from its oven.  Personally Peachy though a Deegan and not a Vegan often orders vegetables on pizza, and the pizza she ordered had onions, red and green peppers and mushrooms which are cremini and baked ahead.
Finally, if you need more convincing you should know that Domenico has also worked with the New York Rangers and their fans as a Pizza Instructor.  We are hugely disappointed to have missed that!  Domenico taught Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome how to make pizza along with 50 Rangers fans while at Keste.  Hopefully we will see the NHL do something with Zazzy's!
