#ReadThis #LeadwithHospitality by #TaylorScott @TScott1502 @BenBellaBooks

You don't need us to tell you how this past year and a half has been to the hospitality industry, but it's time to look on the bright side.  Lead with Hospitality by Taylor Scott is a solid perspective in the industry from an experienced voice of reason addressing the general public who puts great emphasis on empathy.   We found quite a lot of common sense contained in this work however common sense is not quite so common now, n'est pas?

We like the great organizational style of this book with clearcut strategy: Connect, Serve, Engage Inspire.  This is a must-read for anyone young and starting out in the hospitality industry and if you are seasoned, you might enjoy Taylor's perspective.  We particularly like his stories of going to Disney as a kid and his wife's career.

On page 37 Scott talks about how you must learn what makes you YOU and this is a maxim we credit to Ray Dalio who has been saying this since the beginning of time in Principles, which we hope to tell you more about in the future.  This is a universal strategy and transcends hospitality and business in general and can be intelligently carried out to your personal life.

We would however say that just like everything else we've said in 26,000 posts, Manhattan is different across all disciplines, particularly hospitality.  The city that never sleeps needs the government to wake up and support small business owners in a big way and this includes making the laws uphold safety, thus promoting tourism.  LAW AND ORDER NOW NEW YORK!  Not only the tv show but that is great too.  Baptism by fire is de rigeur in Manhattan and we are so used to that.  From our perspective we found some of what Scott says to be extremely laid back and might work best in slow places from an execution standpoint.  His heart and ideas are absolutely in the right place.

Under encouragement we'd suggest COMPLIMENT and do so with qualifying statistics and facts to justify the emotion backing it.    We really like how he quotes Mark Twain on page 140 and now that we've seen Val Kilmer's amazing Amazon documentary we lament that we never saw Val's Twain performance.

Find out how you motivate the elephants in the room and read this!

Lead with Hospitality

Be Human. Emotionally Connect. Serve Selflessly.

Across all industries and levels of organizations, one key leadership trait inspires and motivates more than any other: hospitality

We have all encountered inspirational leaders who’ve helped us, encour- aged us, pushed us to get outside our comfort zones, or motivated us to become the best version of ourselves. What is it about their leadership styles that inspires us to do more for our team and our personal and professional growth?

Turns out, we admire these leaders for the same reasons we love our fa- vorite hotels, resorts, restaurants, or bars: How they make us feel is essen- tial. Members of today’s workforce—especially millennials and Gen Z—are looking for inspiring environments and work that truly fulfills them. Speak- er, consultant, and hospitality industry veteran Taylor Scott knows that the most effective leaders approach their roles with heart, emotionally connect- ing with their team before managing them.

Drawing from his two decades in leadership roles at respected hotels, resorts, and restaurants, Taylor distills the principles of gracious hospitality into specific, actionable leadership lessons applicable in any industry, such as:

• How making people feel welcome fosters loyalty and keeps workers engaged with an organization’s purpose

• How serving people with empathy and compassion sparks workers’ highest productivity

• How making people feel comfortable encourages exploration and dis- covery while inviting everyone to lean into their creativity

• How making people feel significant drives them to deliver their best work

Lead with Hospitality is a call to action to connect with people on a human level which ultimately inspires teams, organizations, and companies to go to the next level.

TAYLOR SCOTT graduated with honors from Florida Southern College, in Lakeland, FL, earning a BS in Business Administration. He earned a Masters of Management in Hospitality from Cornell University.
