Target Field to host showdown between the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild on New Year’s Day; "Road to the NHL Winter Classic" Docuseries Premieres Tonight

With just one month until the 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic®, the countdown to the much-anticipated New Year’s Day matchup between the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild at Target Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins, has begun. The event will be televised nationally on TNT in the U.S. and on Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports in Canada at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. A limited number of tickets to the 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic® are still available from Ticketmaster, the official ticketing partner of the NHL®, at Ticketmaster.com and the Ticketmaster app.

The 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will mark the second time the Wild will play in an NHL regular-season outdoor game, as well as the second time the NHL has brought a regular-season outdoor game to The State of Hockey following the 2016 NHL Stadium Series™ between the Chicago Blackhawks and the hometown Wild, who won the game 6-1 at TCF Bank Field (now Huntington Bank Stadium). The game will also mark the second regular-season outdoor contest for the Blues, who defeated the Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic® at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will be the 13th NHL Winter Classic®, the 33rd NHL regular-season outdoor game, and the first of three NHL regular-season outdoor games scheduled for the 2021-22 season. For a complete history of NHL regular-season outdoor games, click here.

The Wild and Blues have faced off 85 times during the regular season, with St. Louis holding a nine-point advantage over Minnesota (STL: 43-28-14—100; MIN: 37-31-17—91). The clubs have met twice in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the 2015 First Round won by Minnesota in six games, and the 2017 First Round won by St. Louis in five games. The 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will be the first of three meetings between the Blues and the Wild this season, with the second and third games scheduled in St. Louis on April 8 and April 16, respectively.

Road to the NHL Winter Classic Docuseries on TNT

Throughout the month of December, TNT will present a five-part “Road to the NHL Winter Classic” docuseries featuring exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild as they prepare for the legendary outdoor game. Premiering tonight after the Pittsburgh Penguins-Edmonton Oilers game, this week’s Road to the NHL Winter Classic segment will give viewers a look at life both on and off the ice for Blues captain Ryan O’Reilly, as he and his team prepare to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets and as he spends time at home with his wife and kids. Road to the NHL Winter Classic series will air each Wednesday night in December during the network’s NHL postgame coverage, leading up to the 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic® on TNT — New Year’s Day at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT from Target Field in Minneapolis.
