It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and now we know Pearl Diner, a fantastic hot spot way downtown in the Financial District. Owner Alex Pritsos was delightful on the phone and we worked in person with waiter Cristian Guitarrero who had a pleasant, diligent attitude with a smile.
We began with the Cobb Salad, and they were careful to put the dressing on the side as requested. Grilled chicken, bacon, jack cheese, tomato, hard boiled egg and croutons teamed up for a smashing victory of protein and veggies.
Equally convincing is the Tuna Nicoise Salad, which naturally is inspired by Nice, France as a creation. Tuna, lettuce, tomato, hard boiled egg, onion, olives, string beans and green peppers sang a symphony of flavor and announced spring was on its way!
The New Yorker Panini was next, and this was our second favorite edible on our inaugural visit.
All Paninis are not created equal. Some are just superior.
You ought to try the Grilled Chicken, mozzarella, red roasted peppers, tomatoes, oil and vinegar. This is a staple we would think and a coveted selection that hits the spot tremendously. You can add French Fries but we asked if they could add green salad and they said yes! Fabulous.
The Pearl Quesadilla is simply smashing and delicious. It was our favorite edible this visit. Grilled chicken, sauteed mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese were baked just right not too much and not underdone either. Crema and strikingly fragrant pico de gallo (jalapeno, onions, cilantro and tomato) come to the party for a totally winning flavor. It's served with home fries.
Everyone knows that eggs have become a luxury item so pinkies out! #14 on the menu, Eggs Benedict is a classic that makes Breakfast Dinner. Poached eggs luxuriated on a toasted English Muffin with Canadian Bacon and Hollandaise sauce for a goal in Peachy's stomach.
Do your eggs smile like these do at us?
We absolutely adored the fruit salad and more places should have this menu item. It was entirely fresh and just the right touch. Shrimp Scampi is not always on the menu but if it is, go for it. We like how it is nicely rounded out with spanish yellow rice and broccoli and the shrimp itself is festive. There's no liquor license however we happily sipped on grapefruit juice.
Pearl Diner we understand has been here since 1962 and is a standalone building which is really saying something in terms of Manhattan real estate! We liked it and we look forward to seeing what they do next.
