This Memorial Day weekend is uncharacteristically cold and rainy in New York, and so we turn to the second work of jazz by our new discovery, Anthony Ferrara: Cold Faded! Written during a warmer winter with the cold fading away, Cold Faded as an album introduces you to a more mature tone and nuanced version of quality saxophone jazz music. It's a natural progression from Early Spring, previously featured here, which we also highly recommended. A star on sax, Anthony Ferrara also excels at composing. Cold Faded is a work of all his own compositions with the exception of I Love You which is a Cole Porter original. Cold Faded was released on November 15, 2022.
Force Field Vein begins with an ambient tone including 33 measures in a new signature style. It's followed up by an all-time favorite, the undeniable classic I Love You* (Cole Porter). We hear a sprinkle of fairy dust introducing some drawn out tunes that stretched out beautifully in Sunrise. This might be the only sun you encounter today: listen to it!
Next, the album name is after this track: Cold Faded. A melodic victory, Cold Faded is lively and innovative, much like Anthony himself, proving himself to be a true original and new modern classic. Cane Swipe might be our favorite: it has quiet moments but speeds along like a New York minute with the zippiness and pep that you will come to like with this artist new to us and perhaps you too!
Stuck Up Top reminded us of a staircase, while Rage Under Surface lent itself to more ambient listening of a highly likeable unobtrusive nature; we surmise that this band is seemingly great live and our word choice merely reflects the truth that we have never seen them live. After Waste really is absolutely a lovely hangover reflecting authentic creativity fueled by alcohol! The alacrity and speed is well-reflected in Infinity Unravels, while the final track is an alternative take of Cold Faded.
Despite his youthfulness, Anthony Ferrara is proving to be like a fine wine, getting better with age!

Ferrara assembles again his dream rhythm section of Versace/Anderson/Drummond to further unveil his maturing musical universe. He started to play saxophone at age 9. His unique talent was already obvious. While still studying at NYU’s Jazz Studies program he released his debut album Early Spring (SCCD31920) in 2021.
