* The Flames netted a go-ahead goal in the final five minutes of regulation to earn their first win at Scotiabank Saddledome of the season and snap the Hurricanes’ winning streak at seven contests.
* A four-game slate features the top two picks from the 2026 NHL Draft going head-to-head as Gavin McKenna and the Maple Leafs host Ivar Stenberg and the Sharks for Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet+.
KAPRIZOV HITS DOUBLE DIGITS AS WILD EXTEND STREAK AT HOME
After the Wild took a 1-0 lead, the Blue Jackets pulled even exactly one minute later but Kirill Kaprizov (1-0—1) broke the stalemate and became the first player to hit a double-digit goal total this season as Minnesota maintained a perfect 4-0-0 record at home to start the season.
* Kaprizov became the sixth active player to reach 10 goals in a season in nine games or fewer, alongside Auston Matthews (6 GP in 2018-19), Alex Ovechkin (8 GP in 2017-18), David Pastrnak (9 GP in 2019-20 & 2018-19), Nikita Kucherov (9 GP in 2017-18) and Sidney Crosby (9 GP in 2016-17). Kaprizov also became the fastest player in Wild history to reach the mark in a season (9 GP), eclipsing Brian Rolston (12 GP in 2006-07).
* Kaprizov factored on a game-winning goal for the 78th time in his career and surpassed Marian Gaborik (77) for the third most in franchise history behind Mikko Koivu (122) and Zach Parise (86).
FLAMES SNAP HURRICANES WIN STREAK IN #NHLSTATS: LIVE UPDATES
The latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates saw Matt Coronato (0-1—1) factor on one of his team’s three goals and Yegor Sharangovich (1-0—1) score the winner with less than five minutes remaining in regulation to help the Flames snap the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Hurricanes’ win streak at seven games – the ninth time in franchise history the club has ended a streak of at least that length and the first time since 2022-23 (NYR: 7 GP).
QUICK CLICKS
TOP PICKS FROM 2026 NHL DRAFT CLASH IN TORONTO ON SPORTSNET+
The top two picks from the 2026 NHL Draft go head-to-head as Gavin McKenna (No. 1) and the Maple Leafs host Ivar Stenberg (No. 2) and the Sharks at Scotiabank Arena in the latest edition of Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet+, followed by Sidney Crosby and the Penguins battling Nick Schmaltz and the Mammoth at Delta Center.
* McKenna (2-3—5 in 9 GP) and Stenberg (2-4—6 in 8 GP) both rank within the top 10 in rookie scoring to start the season and will look to add to their totals when they face off for the first time. Should they both find the score sheet, it would mark the sixth time in the past 20 years that the first and second overall picks from the same draft class each recorded a point in their first-ever meeting. The other instances: Oct. 21, 2025 (2025 NHL Draft: Matthew Schaefer & Michael Misa), Jan. 17, 2024 (2022 NHL Draft: Juraj Slafkovský & Simon Nemec), Oct. 19, 2016 (2016 NHL Draft: Auston Matthews & Patrik Laine), Oct. 20, 2009 (2006 NHL Draft: Erik Johnson & Jordan Staal) and Dec. 11, 2006 (2004 NHL Draft: Alex Ovechkin & Evgeni Malkin).
* Another No. 1 pick in action Monday, Crosby, visits Utah two points away from becoming the eighth player in NHL history with 800 career road points (306-492—798 in 717 GP) and just the second active behind Ovechkin (476-347—823 in 792 GP). Meanwhile, across the ice, Schmaltz (59-89—148 in 173 GP) is two points away from joining captain Clayton Keller (189) as the second player to record 150 points with the Mammoth.
National Games on the Radar this week
Five #NHLStats and storylines you need to know about other national broadcasts this week:
1. Lightning at Golden Knights on ESPN (Tuesday): A doubleheader on ESPN concludes with a clash between Nikita Kucherov and Jack Eichel at T-Mobile Arena. Kucherov (404-730—1,134 in 887 GP), who has collected at least a point in every game he has played against Vegas (14 GP), needs four points to eclipse Steven Stamkos (555-582—1,137 in 1,082 GP) for the Lightning record.
2. Flyers at Sabres on TNT, HBO MAX (Wednesday): The Sabres and Flyers, who both made their return to the playoffs last season, go head-to-head at KeyBank Center. Buffalo captain Rasmus Dahlin (104-334—438 in 592 GP) enters the contest with the opportunity to climb multiple all-time lists among Swedish defensemen: he can surpass Alexander Edler (104-335—439 in 1,030 GP) for eighth-most goals as well as ninth-most points.
3. Panthers at Senators on Prime (Wednesday): Brady Tkachuk returns to Canadian Tire Centre for the first time after spending eight seasons with the Senators (213-250—463 in 572 GP). Tkachuk ranks within the top five for goals and points in franchise history and served as Ottawa’s captain for five seasons.
4. Maple Leafs at Oilers on Sportsnet (Saturday): For a third straight Saturday Night Hockey, Gavin McKenna will square off against a fellow No. 1 pick, this time in his first meeting against Connor McDavid. McDavid (6-17—23 in 8 GP) enters the week seven points shy of 30 on the season and can become the sixth player in NHL history to reach the mark in 11 games or fewer, following Mario Lemieux (8 GP in 1988-89, 9 GP in 1995-96 & 1992-93), Mike Bossy (9 GP in 1984-85), Wayne Gretzky (10 GP in 1984-85 & 11 GP in 1986-87), Pat LaFontaine (11 GP in 1992-93) and Brent Sutter (11 GP in 1984-85).
5. Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sportsnet, TNT and HBO MAX (Sunday): Kyle Connor and the Jets host Nick Suzuki and the Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the eighth installment of the Heritage Classic. Montreal (also 2011 & 2003) and Winnipeg (2019 & 2016) are both set for their third Heritage Classic appearance – the most among all teams – and own a matching record in those contests (1-1-0).
