#SportyPeachy #MLBPeachy Hard Rock International and NY Mets Owner Steve Cohen Officially Unveil Renderings of Metropolitan Park

Images showcase the sports and entertainment park New York deserves, kicks off New York City zoning process

New renderings of Metropolitan Park, the partnership between Steve Cohen and Hard Rock International, give New Yorkers a look of what turning empty parking lots into 25 acres of new public park will actually feel like. The $8 billion privately funded project is now moving forward with ULURP (Uniform Land Use Review Procedure) New York City's process for public approval of the development. The design and the layout were informed over three years of community engagement by Cohen and his partners with local residents, small businesses, Mets fans, and Queens community leaders to transform the area.
Community First Vision: The 25 acre park’s design, by the local team of SHoP Architects (Domino Park) and Field Ops (The High Line, Domino Park), integrates input, ideas, and feedback collected from 15 community workshops, hundreds of meetings with local leaders, and over 20,000 door-to-door conversations with our neighbors. It also pays homage to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park’s iconic World’s Fair history and architecture, and the storied history of the Mets, Shea Stadium, and Citi Field.

Transforming Asphalt to 25 Acres of Public Park: Parks and public space are essential to any community, and Citi Field shouldn’t be an exception. Metropolitan Park will have 20 acres of new public park space and 5 acres of community athletic fields and playgrounds. This represents more new park and community space than Bryant Park, the High Line, and Union Square Park combined.

Investing in Public Infrastructure & Transportation: Metropolitan Park is an opportunity to connect surrounding neighborhoods, expand waterfront access, increase walkability & cycling access, and improve transportation options to benefit the community. A multi-million investment in public infrastructure improvements, including transforming the Mets-Willets Point 7 Train station, will create a welcoming, accessible entrance to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park as well as Citi Field and Willets Point.

Metropolitan Park is a once in a life-time opportunity to transform the 50 acres of asphalt around Citi Field into an economic engine that will create 23,000 competitive-paying union jobs. This reimagined space will bring together neighbors, fans and visitors to enjoy 25 acres of new public park space, improved public transportation and climate infrastructure, live music, a Queens Food Hall and a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino with bars, restaurants and a sportsbook.

"We are very proud to present New Yorkers with the visualization of what's possible for a world-class city and its surrounding neighborhoods," said Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International. "We'd like to thank our partners for working with us to create something truly transformative. We take great pride and the utmost care in bringing forth something that will create much needed jobs and memories that will live on for generations to come."

"It's time the world's greatest city got the sports and entertainment park it deserves," said New York Mets owner Steve Cohen. "When I bought this team, fans and the community kept saying we needed to do better. Metropolitan Park delivers on the promise of a shared space that people will not only want to come to and enjoy, but can be truly proud of."

#SportyPeachy @MLB #MLBPeachy #BostonPeachy Boston Red Sox Named Recipient of the 2019 “Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence”

Club Recognized for “Home Base,” the Program Dedicated to Healing ‘Invisible Wounds’ of Veterans, Service Members, and Their Families

The Boston Red Sox have been named recipient of the 2019 “Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence,” Major League Baseball announced earlier today. The honor recognizes the Red Sox Foundation’s efforts to establish a philanthropic partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital to develop the Home Base Program, a nonprofit dedicated to providing world-class clinical care, wellness, education and research initiatives for veterans, active military service members, and their families impacted by “invisible wounds,” such as post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner and the Red Sox Foundation were the catalysts in the creation of Home Base in 2007, which has served as a lifeline for those seeking a successful transition post-military service. As part of their recognition, the Red Sox will receive a $10,000 grant from Major League Baseball Charities. This is the second Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence for Boston after being recognized as the inaugural recipient in 2010 for their “Red Sox Scholars” program. They are the only Club to win the Award twice.

As a National Center of Excellence, Home Base operates the first and largest private-sector clinic in the nation devoted to providing evidence-based mental health and brain injury care, advancements, and awareness in support of veterans of all eras, active duty service members and military family members – at no cost and regardless of discharge status. Home Base’s two-week Intensive Clinical Program is one of several clinical programs, which compresses more than a year’s worth of treatment within two weeks through evidence-based therapies, complementary and alternative medicine. Serving Veterans from across the globe, some components of the program include supervised exercise, education about healthy eating and living, sleep hygiene, stress management, and mindfulness training. Additional organizations collaborate with RSF and MGH to sustain the clinical programs available at Home Base to include Wounded Warrior Project, George W. Bush Institute’s Warrior Wellness Alliance, Fisher House, RAND Corporation, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. Since its inception in 2009, more than 24,000 veterans, service members, and their families have been treated under Home Base. Additionally, the program has trained more than 73,000 clinicians, educators, and community members nationally since its inception.

While Home Base is a nationally recognized charitable organization, they continuously work to grow and expand their boundaries, both geographically and intellectually, to reach new heights in offering innovation and rigor to help veterans and their families facilitate successful transitions to civilian life. Most recently, their increased dedication and support of the military community has directed their efforts overseas, providing aid to those from Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Panama, Algeria, the United Kingdom, Guyana, and Japan. To commemorate the MLB & Mitel present London Series 2019, the Red Sox Foundation partnered with Home Base and Walking with The Wounded to raise awareness of U.S.- & U.K.-based veterans. Their joint initiative included an intimate dinner for 300 at Kensington Palace featuring a special performance by Sting and tickets to Game One of the London Series. Together, they raised more than $1.3 million at the event. Home Base is building an international coalition of best-in-class organizations to continue their mission in healing the invisible wounds of servicemen and women on a global stage.

“On behalf of Major League Baseball, I congratulate the Boston Red Sox for winning their second Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence,” said Commissioner Manfred. “The organization’s devotion to improving the quality of life of veterans, active service members and their families serves as a model for how our sport gives back to those who have personally sacrificed in service to our nation. We are proud to recognize Home Base as a leading safe haven and treatment option for the military community.”

“We are honored to be the recipients of this prestigious award for the second time, and for a program that has been incredibly special to me personally,” said Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner. “As Home Base celebrates its 10th anniversary, we have seen the impact of its important work through the thousands of veterans, service members, and families who have been set on a path of healing from the invisible wounds. They have done so with the utmost care, integrity, and decency for everyone who has walked through their doors. I truly believe this program has saved countless lives, and I am grateful to MLB for this notable recognition.”

#NewYorkNotes @GRAMMYMuseum #TakeMeOuttotheBallgame #MLBPeachy #CulturedPeachy @RecordingAcad #GrammyMuseum GRAMMY MUSEUM® PRESENTS TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME: POPULAR MUSIC AND THE NATIONAL PASTIME NEW EXHIBIT SHOWCASES MUSIC'S INTEGRAL HISTORY IN THE BASEBALL EXPERIENCE

Whether it's the national anthem played before every game, the music ballplayers select to accent their "walk up" to home plate, or the seventh inning stretch when fans sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," music is an integral part of the baseball experience. To celebrate the soundtrack of our national pastime, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents Take Me Out To The Ball Game: Popular Music And The National Pastime. The exhibit will open on March 14, when Bob Santelli, Founding Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum and the exhibit’s curator, will discuss the history of music in baseball with Barry Zito at the Museum's Clive Davis Theater as part of the Museum's Public Programs. The exhibit will run through baseball season until fall 2019.
Take Me Out To The Ball Game: Popular Music And The National Pastime will offer insight and historical reference for the history of music in baseball. The exhibit takes you on a journey starting before the 20th century when interest in baseball-themed music was fostered through the sales of sheet music, then explains the rise of baseball songs becoming a part of a new era of American music in the early 1900s, to current day popular music being a central part of players preparing to take the field and excite the fans. All forms of music, from pop and jazz, to country, R&B, and rock and roll embraced America's baseball passion and are reflected throughout the exhibit.

Edward Meeker and The Edison Orchestra's original 1908 recording of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame® this year.

“Baseball and popular music have been practically inseparable for the past century and a half,” said Santelli. “Hundreds of songs have been written about the national pastime. And today, with ballplayers personally selecting walk-up-to-the-batter’s-box-music and with retired players like Barry Zito and Bernie Williams actually launching music careers, the baseball-music connection is stronger than ever.”

Exhibit highlights include:

• Sheet music from the game's early years, including “Take Me Out To The Ball Game”
• Handwritten lyrics to baseball classics, such as James Taylor’s “Angels Of Fenway”
• Special edition Fender guitars, including the brand new Jackie Robinson Telecaster
• MLB sportscaster Harry Caray’s microphone
• Limited edition posters, vinyl records, and photographs

Tickets to the GRAMMY Museum are available for sale at www.grammymuseum.org

NY METS PITCHER NOAH SYNDERGAARD SET TO GUEST STAR IN SEASON SIX OF HISTORY’S HIT DRAMA SERIES ‘VIKINGS’

Midseason Five Premieres Wednesday, November 28 at 9PM ET/PT

NY Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, also known as “Thor,” throws down the hammer this week on the set of HISTORY’s “Vikings” in Ireland where he will guest star in one episode in season six of the hit drama series. Syndergaard will play the character “Thorbjorn,” a Viking warrior who is loyal to Ivar the Boneless, who he sees as a God on earth. “Vikings” returns for its midseason five premiere on Wednesday, November 28 at 9PM ET/PT on HISTORY.

Season five returns with the arrival of a legendary Viking, the famous Duke Rollo (Clive Standen), who causes further upheaval in a Kattegat still reeling from Ivar the Boneless becoming its King. As Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and Lagertha flee Ivar’s murderous forces with Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), Ivar’s tyrannical reign over Scandinavia ushers in a new Dark Age, the likes of which have never been seen. Ultimately, Ivar’s reign will not go unchallenged by the sons of Ragnar and old enemies will become allies to defeat the despot who has declared himself a God on earth. Meanwhile in Iceland, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) battles the elements, and his own settlers’ desire for revenge, to forge a Viking colony on the beautiful and desolate landscape.

Across all platforms, the last season of “Vikings” averaged 11.2 million viewers per episode. “Vikings” is a top five drama across all of cable this year (Live +3) and finished its season as the #1 original series on cable on Wednesday nights among all key demographics (Live+SD). #SmallScreenScenes @RedSox #TedWilliams #GreatestHitter #AmericanMastersPBS @PBSAmermasters #MLBPeachy #WhomYouKnow #SportyPeachy THIRTEEN’s American Masters Presents the Exclusive U.S. Broadcast Premiere of Ted Williams: “The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived” It Earns Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation Monday, July 23, 2018 on PBS in Honor of Baseball Hall of Famer’s Centennial

Best damn hitter that ever lived!

This one's for you, NEW ENGLAND!
(Home of Peachy Deegan)
And Boston, and Boston College, and all of Fenway.
And you too, Bark-Andre (and stay tuned for more on him.)

Ted Williams defined himself by what he excelled at and believed that you have an obligation to always do your best.
He is truly our cup of coffee.
He is the guy that John Wayne played in the movies.
Genuinely.

Ted Williams didn't like the press, and when you see it from his perspective in this great work, you can see why.  We think he'd like us however, because we have never been regular press.  Thanks to Mover and Shaker Mike Rutstein, whom Peachy wrote for with Eagle Action, a professional publication covering the great sports of Boston College, Peachy wrote for Boston Baseball, an independent publication covering the Red Sox.  Coming up on PBS is one of the greatest documentaries and celebrations of American life you'll ever see.  You absolutely must see it.  It is the true celebration of joy in life, which is brought to you only through SPORTS.

A true American patriot and a US Marine FIGHTER PILOT, Ted Williams spent 5 years defending our great nation: three in WWII and two in Korea.  What professional athlete today would sacrifice their career to defend our country?

Despite having a most challenging childhood, Ted Williams was not a wimpy snowflake of today or an excuse person.  He took his knocks and channeled them into a powerful stream of anger that ignited the world and put baseball on fire.  Just watching him hit will bring you joy and expect even the toughest people around to watch this with a box of Kleenex because if you don't cry at least once, you do not have a heart.

Do not miss the 1941 All Star Game's 9th inning highlight!!!

It's also fantastic to see his humanity with words from his daughter and video of his fishing excursions.

His statistics will wow you but what will really touch you are the words said by many notables throughout this, and we were thrilled to learn how great he is with words.  He was a most notable swearer and did it most creatively.  Ted Williams character was further defined when he refused to let stats be rounded up: he went out and earned them.
We love what he stands for.
We're sorry we didn't know him.

What would Ted Williams do with five more seasons?!
July 23rd, be there: The Kid and PBS.

***

Narrated by Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Jon Hamm, documentary features exclusive never-before-seen footage of Williams’ final game and includes new interviews with Bob Costas, Wade Boggs, Ben Bradlee Jr. and Joey Votto

During his remarkable career with the Boston Red Sox, Ted Williams earned many nicknames - The Kid, The Splendid Splinter and Teddy Ballgame, but the only nickname that he wanted was “the greatest hitter who ever lived.” In that pursuit, he combined his preternatural gifts with a fierce work ethic to become widely regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game of baseball and in the process elevated the science of hitting in ways still emulated today.

The new documentary from THIRTEEN’s American Masters, co-produced by Albert M. Tapper Productions, in association with Major League Baseball, David Ortiz’ Big Papi Productions and Nick Davis Productions, explores not only the Baseball Hall of Famer’s remarkable on-field accomplishments but also his complicated relationships with his family, teammates, press, fans and himself. American Masters – Ted Williams: “The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived” premieres Monday, July 23 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) in honor of Williams’ centennial (August 30, 1918 – July 5, 2002), and marks the first baseball subject in the series’ 32-year history. The film will be available to stream the following day via pbs.org/americanmasters and PBS apps.

Through never-before-seen archival footage and in-depth interviews with those who knew and studied Williams, including his daughter Claudia Williams, author/journalist Ben Bradlee, Jr., veteran baseball writer Roger Angell and award-winning broadcasters Bob Costas and the late Dick Enberg, the documentary demonstrates the power of the heroic myth-making culture in which Williams flourished. Lesser-known topics explored in the film include Williams’ Mexican-American background, his experiences serving during World War II and the Korean War, and his deep rage over his mother’s virtual abandonment of him and his younger brother.

Narrated by Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor Jon Hamm, American Masters – Ted Williams: “The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived” also looks at the legendary player’s impact on the game of baseball and his relevance in the almost 60 years since his retirement, highlighted by Williams’ iconic achievement — he is the last player to hit over .400, finishing the 1941 season batting .406. Former players including Baseball Hall of Famers Willie McCovey and Wade Boggs, three-time All-Star Jim Kaat, and current Cincinnati Reds first baseman and former National League MVP Joey Votto share how Williams’ philosophy, commitment to greatness and approach to hitting influenced them in the film.

“Ted Williams was a fascinating, complicated man and this film really covers all the issues he was dealing with on top of baseball,” said David Ortiz, the recently retired Boston Red Sox 10-time All-Star and executive producer for Big Papi Productions. “Mr. Williams is such a part of baseball and Boston even today. This is a great project that really looked at his whole life and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Launched in 1986 on PBS, American Masters has earned 28 Emmy Awards — including 10 for Outstanding Non-Fiction Series and five for Outstanding Non-Fiction Special — 13 Peabodys, an Oscar, three Grammys, two Producers Guild Awards and many other honors. To further explore the lives and works of masters past and present, American Masters offers streaming video of select films, outtakes, filmmaker interviews, theAmerican Masters Podcast, educational resources and more. The series is a production of THIRTEEN PRODUCTIONS LLC for WNET and also seen on the WORLD channel.

MLB clubs rally to support Parkland (FL) community and student body of Marjory Stoneman Douglas H.S. Clubs to wear caps of Stoneman Douglas Eagles baseball team during pregame of first Spring Training games on Friday, February 23rd; Teams also may wear caps in Friday's games

Major League Baseball today announced that all MLB Clubs will wear the caps of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Eagles baseball team during pregame (e.g., batting practice, lineups and National Anthem) of Spring Training games on Friday, February 23rd. The Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers will wear their caps on Saturday, February 24th as they are not scheduled to play on Friday. Additionally, Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has approved the use of the caps during Friday's games as well as Saturday for the Royals and Rangers.

Commissioner Manfred said: "Major League Baseball is proud to see our Clubs supporting the Parkland community and the students of Stoneman Douglas in a way that is both meaningful and natural to our sport. The idea began with several of our Grapefruit League Clubs and quickly turned into a league-wide effort. We hope this demonstration by our teams, players, coaches and umpires helps contribute to the healing process of everyone affected by this horrible tragedy."

New Era, the Official On-Field Cap of Major League Baseball, produced the more than 2,500 caps that will be worn by all players, managers, coaches and umpires. Following the Spring Training games, Clubs may also have the caps signed and then auctioned to benefit funds related to assisting victims and families of the tragic shooting at Stoneman Douglas on February 14th. Many Clubs will be donating proceeds of the auction to the Broward Education Foundation, which established the official Stoneman Douglas Victims Fund. More information can be found at browardedfoundation.org.

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, Oakland A's pitching prospect Jesus Luzardo and Colorado Rockies third base prospect Colton Welker are alumni of Stoneman Douglas High School.

#PilotPeachy #MLBPeachy @Fly_Norwegian @Norwegian Introduces Fourth American Tailfin Hero: Babe Ruth -- The Great Bambino's image is affixed to the airline's 20th Boeing 787 Dreamliner --

Norwegian, the international carrier that was named Airline of the Year at the 2017 CAPA Aviation Awards, announced its fourth American tailfin hero, Babe Ruth. Ruth's likeness is adorned on the tail of Norwegian's twentieth Boeing 787 aircraft, which will take flight in a few days.

George Herman Ruth, Jr., one of the most famous American baseball players, was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1895. At the age of seven, Ruth was sent to a Catholic reform school, and it was there that he developed a passion for baseball. Ruth was offered a spot on the Baltimore Orioles after owner Jack Dunn took notice of him in high school and signed him to the team in 1914. While playing with the Orioles, Ruth, 19, was referred to as "Jack's newest babe," by fellow players – a name by which he would be known for the remainder of his career.

"Babe Ruth is an American icon and an inspiration to many people worldwide, so when it came time to select our next American tailfin hero, it seemed fitting to pay homage to America's pastime and someone who is known for never giving up," said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian's Chief Commercial Officer. "Like Babe Ruth, Norwegian is persistent and has received many accolades. Over the last few years, we've been tenacious in our pursuit to bring more affordable flights to the United States and fulfill our mission to allow everyone to fly affordably."

Since its founding, Norwegian has celebrated iconic and historical figures on the tails of its aircraft. Each of these people share Norwegian's spirit of pushing boundaries, inspiring others and challenging the status quo. Previously announced American tailfin heroes include Clara Barton, Sojourner Truth and Benjamin Franklin. The airline recently took delivery of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring Babe Ruth, the twelfth aircraft of its type in Norwegian's ever-growing fleet. The airline now offers 64 routes from the U.S; 58 of which are transatlantic routes from 15 U.S. airports to Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom and six routes to the French Caribbean.

About Norwegian
Norwegian is the world's sixth largest low-cost airline and carried 30 million passengers in 2016. The airline operates more than 500 routes to more than 150 destinations in Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Thailand, Caribbean and the U.S. Norwegian has a fleet of more than 130 aircraft, with an average age of 3.6 years, making it one of the world's youngest fleets. Norwegian was named the Most Fuel-Efficient Airline on Transatlantic Routes by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). Norwegian was named the World's Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline by the renowned SkyTrax World Airline Awards in 2015 and 2016, and for the fourth consecutive year, named Europe's Best Low-Cost Airline. "Boyhood," the first ever baseball-themed television series in China, reached a large audience of viewers in China across television and digital platforms. The series, which was produced in cooperation with Major League Baseball, generated more than 5 billion video views, 3.1 billion social media impressions in China (@Weibo), and won its time period on television during the golden time window, China's primetime (7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.).

The 40-episode series starred the TFBoys, a popular Chinese boy band, as baseball players trying to turn around the performance of a losing team. The series aired on Hunan Satellite TV, China's top satellite television station, and was available on digital platforms Tencent Video and iQiyi Video. "Boyhood" ranked as the number one topic on @Weibo for the month of July, the first time that has occurred for a baseball topic in China.

The baseball scenes for "Boyhood" were filmed at the MLB Development Center in Nanjing, China. Seventeen players from the MLB Development Center made guest appearances in the series, including three who have signed Minor League contracts with MLB Clubs: "Itchy" Xu Guiyan (Baltimore Orioles), Hai-Cheng Gong (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Justin Qiangbarenzeng (Boston Red Sox).

"The huge audience tuning into this year's 'Boyhood' series is the latest indication that baseball is finding its own distinctive way forward in communities around the world," said Chris Park, MLB Executive Vice President, Global Marketing and Partnerships. "We are delighted to see the MLB Development Centers serve and inspire great Chinese storytelling, even as the Centers continue to lay the foundation for the first full generation of Major League Chinese talent."

MLB and MLBPA announce the creation of "Players Weekend" Major Leaguers to let their personalities shine while paying tribute to people and causes important in their lives

Major Leaguers will let their personalities and passions shine during Players Weekend, a newly created event taking place during all MLB games scheduled between August 25th-27th, it was announced today by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Players Weekend is a player-focused event that will include the players wearing colorful, non-traditional uniforms featuring alternate designs inspired by youth league uniforms. Players will have the opportunity to have a nickname placed on the back of the jerseys made by Majestic Athletic, as well as to wear and use uniquely colored and designed spikes, batting gloves, wristbands, compression sleeves, catcher's masks, and bats.

During Players Weekend, the players will also be wearing specially designed caps by New Era, and socks from Stance. In addition, players will have the option of wearing t-shirts highlighting a charity or cause of their choice during pregame workouts and postgame interviews.

Several Major Leaguers will serve as Players Weekend Ambassadors by taking an active role in promoting the event, including: Yonder Alonso (Seattle Mariners), Javier Báez (Chicago Cubs), José Bautista (Toronto Blue Jays), Nelson Cruz (Seattle Mariners), Ender Inciarte (Atlanta Braves), Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians), Manny Machado (Baltimore Orioles), Anthony Rizzo (Chicago Cubs), CC Sabathia (New York Yankees), Christian Yelich (Miami Marlins) and Chris B. Young (Boston Red Sox). The players will support the event by posting to social media using #PlayersWeekend.

Additionally, during Players Weekend, the right sleeve of each player's jersey will feature a patch with a blank space for him to write the name of a person or organization that was instrumental to his development. The patch features a new logo that shows a progression of five players increasing in size to demonstrate the process of a player's path from Little League and youth leagues to Major League Baseball. The new "Evolution" logo, which symbolizes solidarity with local youth baseball and softball organizations, will also appear on the back of each Club's cap and jerseys in place of the MLB silhouetted batter.

"The journey from youth leagues to Major League Baseball is one that players don't take alone," said Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. "Major League players have been supported by family members, coaches, and organizations that helped them develop their unique skills and overcome challenges to reach the highest level of the sport. These games will allow the players to thank those who were important in their lives while showcasing their personality in a fun way that fits baseball's community-driven focus."

"Players are increasingly interested in finding unique ways to connect with their fans by allowing them to see more of their personalities and interests," stated MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark. "The collective desire to express their diverse interests and backgrounds is what motivated Players to advocate for the creation of Players Weekend. This will be an exciting and unique opportunity for the Players to literally wear their passions on their sleeves, and equipment, too, as they embrace this chance to let their true identities shine."

Game-worn, Players Weekend jerseys will be auctioned at MLB.com/auctions with 100% of net proceeds donated to the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation, a joint effort established in July 2015 by MLB and the MLBPA with an initial commitment of $30 million focused on improving the caliber, effectiveness and availability of amateur baseball and softball programs across the United States and Canada.

The special features of the Players Weekend games will also be adopted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals during the MLB Little League Classic to be played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, August 20th during the 2017 Little League World Series. The game, which will celebrate youth baseball, will be played in front of a crowd of primarily Little League players and their families at a renovated, historic Bowman Field. Earlier in the day, Major League players will attend Little League World Series games and cheer on these youngsters as a demonstration of the players' passion and commitment to helping grow the game at the youth level. The MLB Little League Classic will air nationally on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" and ESPN Radio at 7:00 p.m. Easter
