Whom You Know Kicks off our coverage of CHOCHENG highlighting his new uptown Atelier and Spring/Summer 2010 show

Cho Cheng inherited his love of fashion from his grandmother, Betty Char-Nuis Yan, the acclaimed couturier who founded the famed Betty Couture at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong in 1960. Whom You Know thinks that is just the best as if you are an avid reader, you know that is Peachy Deegan's grandmother up at the top of the page drinking with her sister and friends in Manhattan in the 1940's, and her name was Bette too.

An alumnus of New York City’s Parsons School of Design, Cho Cheng’s talent was recognized when awarded the Golden Thimble Award in acknowledgement of his graduate collection. Cho Cheng founded his eponymous fashion house, CHOCHENG in 2007, in dedication to his grandmother’s vision and her hallmark superb tailoring, but with a fresh, modern sensibility that encompasses both couture and ready-to-wear collections. In March 2008, Cho Cheng was named one of China’s leading fashion designers – recognition shared with fellow native sons Derek Lam, Peter Som and Phillip Lim.

Cho Cheng debuted his ready-to-wear Fall/Winter 2009 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February 2009. In June 2009, Cho Cheng celebrated the opening of his first Atelier on New York’s Upper East Side which has become a shopping haven for his discerning clientele. Cho Cheng will present his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection which he describes as “a whimsical potpourri of the Japanese obi, Federico Fellini and Holly Golightly” at Bryant Park on Thursday, September 17, 2009. We love love love Holly Golightly at Whom You Know and you can check out our review of Breakfast at Tiffany's in Read This.
