Previously, Penelope Giguere established herself as one of our hockey authorities:
And we are thrilled to hear what she thinks of the NHL playoffs as they have evolved!
Peachy Deegan interviewed Penelope Giguere for Whom You Know.

Peachy Deegan: What has surprised you the most in the playoffs up until this point?
Penelope Giguere: That Vancouver was eliminated in the 1st round, but I’m very happy for the LA Kings

What do you think the greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses are of the remaining four teams?
They all have goalies that are having amazing playoffs. But this can also be a weakness because they can’t rely entirely on the goalie…everybody needs to play their best game ever.

What are your predictions for Round 3?
Kings in 5, NY in 6

We must say that we did notice that Boyle and Kreider factored in on all 3 goals last night, other than Boston College, which is clearly the best training for the NHL, what other avenues do you believe produce the best?
QMJHL, that where Crosby, Lemieux, Giroux, Lafleur, Roy and of course Carbonneau came from

It seems like the games are very low scoring though we expect the one goal differentials...what do you think?
It just shows the parity in the teams. It’s a great show

Who's better, Lundqvist or Brodeur and why?
Lundqvist is having his best season ever. It looks like it is HIS time now, but never underestimate Brodeur and his will of winning. He also has a lot of experience.

Last night the Rangers seemed to be slightly better at forechecking and faceoffs which we think are two key factors to success in the postseason-what do you think?
This is what they will need to win against the Devils.

Do you think the officiating has been well done during the post-season? Why or why not?
This is a long debate. It could be your next subject

What players would you like to see in a bit of a scuffle with each other before the end of round 3?
I don’t think scuffle is for the playoffs.

Do you think anyone is likely to score a Gordie Howe hatrick and if so, who and why?
No…for the reason I wrote on the previous answer

Do you feel there are more blocked shots these days?
Absolutely. The defenseman really have a say in the wins. It’s not all about scoring goals anymore to win the game.

What coaches remaining impress you the most and does Tortorella remind you of the Dos Equis guy?
You have to give credit to Peter Deboer. After last season, the Devils were their lowest ever and look at them now. I don’t think a lot of people saw them in 3rd round.

What should Gary Bettman be doing to promote the NHL more?
Promote the real sport…not the hits and scuffle….

How can anyone walk into a New York sports bar, particularly on the civilized Upper East side, and ask that the Rangers game be turned off in favor of the Yankees (not in the post-season) or NBA playoffs (Knicks out now) and what can we do about it other than give those people a look that they must not have been brought up right?
Let’s just say we don’t have this problem here in Montreal so I can’t really help you. All sports bars show hockey here till the cup is won.

Peachy ate gummy penguins during the 91-92 post-season. What food do you think is best to eat during a hockey game?
Chicken wings

And you drink?
Beer or Bloody Ceasars (something you guys don’t have)

We see DKNY has a spot on the ice in MSG-finally the NHL sees women like hockey too. What other women's brands have you ever seen advertised in the NHL?
I don’t believe I’ve seen any, but hopefully we won’t get to the point where we see a tampax ad on the ice hahaha!!

What commercials do you like the best?
I like the Budweiser Ad where they say (while people are watching the hockey games in sportsbar) that the best is yet to come.

What golf courses do you think have the most NHL players on them right now?
Unfortunately there are a few in the Montreal area

What songs do you think would summarize the playoff season thus far?
Don’t stop believing

What else should Whom You Know readers know about the post-season?
What’s coming up in the draft.

How would you like to be contacted by Whom You Know readers?
