We have readers that love movies, and we have readers that love documentaries (especially by HBO-did you see the amazing recent DeNiro one?).  If you fall in one of these two categories, you'll find Jodrowsky's Dune incredible and enlightening, especially because the movie was not actually made but its influences stretches over the history of movies.  However, if you are into Science Fiction, you can consider
Jodrowsky's Dune to be your dream documentary, because it's based on the best-selling book.

We had not been aware of
Jodrowsky's Dune
 prior to seeing this.
In watching this film, we have the utmost respect for
Jodrowsky himself and his philosophy in particular and we could not agree with him more; Jodrowsky himself tells you business is all about relationships and the relationship is crucial.  This is what we've been saying all along...He's one of the most passionate directors we've ever heard of and he would stop at nothing to create the movie he wanted and his ambition and persistence (he says to always try!) we'd give three thumbs up to if we had another hand. His personality seems fantastically magnetic and his originality is superior.

If you are also new to
Jodrowsky, know that the world knows him well.  He knew Dali, Picasso, Andy Warhol and Orson Welles (we particularly like his negotiating skills with his chef) and the story of how he met Mick Jagger is quite fun.

The book of 3,000 drawings of his movie shots with detailed camera shot directions for the movie that was never made influenced everything from Star Wars to The Terminator to Bladerunner to The Matrix, and actual shots from the book are matched up to these movies to prove it.    One reason why the movie was not made was the length that
Jodrowsky considered with hours going into the double digits.  Perhaps he should have made it in an original and many follow-up sequels.
The storyboards are reason enough to spend your time watching
Jodrowsky's Dune.  Also, the networking and team building by Jodrowsky is highly admirable.  These are skills often overlooked in talented people.

JODOROWSKY’S DUNE is recommended by Whom You Know and truly evidences the birth of science fiction in the movie making industry!

An official selection at the 2013 Cannes, Telluride, Toronto and AFI Film Festivals, the critically acclaimed JODOROWSKY’S DUNE will debut July 8 on Blu-rayä Combo Pack* and Digital from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. As an auteur whose midnight movie classics, El Topo and The Holy Mountain, captivated enthusiastic audiences, cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky set his sights on his most ambitious project yet – a feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s futuristic best-seller, “Dune.” Although his dreams were never realized, the story of Jodorowsky’s “Dune” has placed him at the vanguard of international cinema.

In making the Sony Pictures Classics’ JODOROWSKY’S DUNE, Jodorowsky granted director
Frank Pavich unprecedented access to his production materials on the ill-fated project, including the extraordinary hard-bound book of meticulous story boards, which Jodorowsky used as a “calling card” to pitch his film to Hollywood studios. Jodorowsky also provided candid and comprehensive interviews about his ambitious screenplay, and his global search for a stellar cast and crew to bring his vision to the screen. Special features on the Blu-ray Combo Pack for JODOROWSKY’S DUNE, winner of the Audience Award and Best Documentary at the 2013 Fantastic Fest, include more than 45 minutes of deleted scenes.

*Combo Pack includes Blu-rayä and DVD.

Synopsis
In 1975, Alejandro Jodorowsky began work on his most ambitious project yet. Starring his own
12-year-old son alongside Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine and Salvador Dali, featuring music by Pink Floyd and art by some of the most provocative talents of the era, including H.R. Giger and Jean “Moebius” Giraud, Jodorowsky’s adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel DUNE was poised to change cinema forever.

Through interviews with legends and luminaries including H.R. Giger (artist, Alien), Gary Kurtz (producer, Star Wars: Episodes IV and V) and Nicholas Winding Refn (director, Drive), and an intimate and honest conversation with Jodorowsky, director Frank Pavich’s film finally unearths the full saga of
“The Greatest Science Fiction Movie Never Made.”

Special Features Include:

· Deleted Scenes

JODOROWSKY’S DUNE has a running time of 90 minutes and is rated PG-13 for some violent and sexual images and drug content.
