Just like clam chowder, finding a great lobster roll in Manhattan is not easy!  (New England Clam Chowder rules.)  Luke's Lobster is very good and we've reviewed them in Washington DC recently and Manhattan many years ago.  The world looks to New England for Lobster Rolls, and what could be better than trying all of them and seeing what you think!  We suggest reading this winner of a book published by The History Press to see what this author thinks of lobster rolls in New England, and we love how Sally Lerman, the author, has dedicated the book to her grandmother  (We're excited to have started working with The Grammys, but our favorite Grammy is the one on our Facebook and Twitter page.)

We can't say we agree with all of Sally's choices because we have not been to all of these places (but we've published on around 300 impressive East Coast restaurants and have considered more than that), but applaud her idea and her research.  As you might imagine, Maine has a commanding lead over the other states in terms of state coverage!
Jane Shauck has taken amazing pictures and we must admit that Peachy was so excited to eat that Sonsie lobster roll she should have paused and adjusted the flash.  After reading this book, you're going to want to get in your car and take a road trip to all of these places and see what you think!  They look incredibly delicious.  This is definitely a book to read during summer however, we imagine if you read it in the bad weather it will cheer you up in a big way.  We suggest reading this book sipping wine from your Lobster Wine Glass (MW Coastal Goods) and wearing your Lobster Necklace by Samantha.  Think we like lobster?  No, we love it.

The History Press has been one of the most impressive publishers we've seen in quite awhile, and we know we have many history-enthused readers so stay tuned for their hit parade!  Charles Kuralt taught us to love the Carolinas.  And for the record, we have been most impressed with the lobster roll at Sonsie by Chef Bill (notice how there are a lot of Bills doing great restaurant work-by city there's Billy Martin in Washington, Bill Knapp and Billy Bishop in Manhattan...)

The History Press, based in Charleston, South Carolina,
brings a new way of thinking to history publishing by producing regional history titles by excellent historians
and striving to make these books available to a wide audience.

The mighty lobster roll is best enjoyed at a picnic table under a red umbrella accompanied by the sounds and smells of the sea. The perfect roll is all in the execution, and the variations are subtle but nearly endless—from top-sliced to buttered or mayonnaise-based. Blogger extraordinaire Sally Lerman chronicles her quest for the perfect bite in Lobster Rolls of New England. Savor mouthwatering descriptions of forty coastal lobster rolls, their storied venues, luscious photos and recipes for some of the lobster roll’s best complements. Discover the surprising history of the first trademarked lobster roll. Devour the very best New England has to offer, from Downeast Maine’s Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound to Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock in New London, Connecticut.

About the Author:
Sally Lerman is a gal on a quest to sample every lobster roll in New England—and maybe beyond. She has been traveling the small towns and seaside villages of New England for years in search of the best lobster rolls, having sampled them at over 225 venues, to date. This thirteenth-generation New Englander began sharing her findings with the world in 2012 through her blog, lobstergal.com. She applies her background in science, a BS in nutrition science and an MS in health promotion to her life’s passion of lobster roll research, documenting the details and weighing and photographing every lobster roll she finds. She lives with her husband, Ken, in Hartford, Connecticut.

About the Photographer:
Although a Midwest native, Jane Shauck met her future husband at a lobster bake on the beach in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Jane has photographed for clients such as the New York Mets, Time magazine, GE and Xerox, and her work has been featured in magazines such as Real Simple; O, The Oprah Magazine; Town & Country; and Forbes. She enjoys exploring the New England coast from her home in West Hartford, Connecticut, with her husband, two boys and Labrador retriever. You can view her work at www.photojane.com.
