Simcoe, who is the epitome of revolting and makes our blood boil

How fun the art of espionage is in the ultimate American saga!
We are backtracking back to Series One of Turn, and it is more than worth your while to go back with us. Start here if you have not seen it before, and you HAVE to see it.  We've watched every episode of both Season 1 and 2 TWICE.  And we even made time to start it during the most holy time of the year, the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  This takes place back in the days when intelligence was intelligent!

This series adds humanity to the Revolutionary War period, and the stellar script plus the spot-on acting by the most talented cast we've seen since Downton Abbey should make you forget that it's sunny summer outside and make you stop and watch Turn.  In almost every show or movie we see we feel there are weak actors but we just don't tell you who they are; in Turn, there are no weak actors.  Their collective talent in tandem with one another is astounding.

Turn is cunning.
Turn is scheming.
Turn is sharp at every angle.
(and aren't you tired of American television that does not appeal to the mind?)

Turn Season Two was Highly Recommended:

We cannot remember the last time when we reviewed something that has already aired; that alone should tell you how strongly we feel about this series, which should get renewed for Series 3 and Season 4 while they're at it.  Season One opens in a cabbage patch in Long Island with the protagonist and hero of this series, Abraham.  This town in LI, Setauket, is loyal to King George and is packed-full of redcoats.  Abraham's father is the magistrate in the town, and is loyal to Captain Hewlett, who is one of the best actors in this series (we see Burn Gorman and we think Guppy.  Not that he isn't castable in multiple roles, but we watched BBC's Bleak House that many times!).  We applaud Hewlitt's total commitment to civility and he sets and excellent example in that regard !

It is hilarious how they call Manhattan "New York Island".  We hate to say it as we are in the business of advocating Manhattan, but New York City was a home base for Britain.  The Patriot Spys are up against that...among a long list of other challenges.   It's morally complex and this is portrayed so well.  For the record we understand the British had spies before the Culpepper ring (Culper in Turn) was developed, so Washington really did it to be competitive, not nasty.

Law students and lawyers in particular will learn something from and be entertained by (respectively) a certain scene by Abraham that is pure brilliance.  The game Marco Polo will add a new memory for you, and for anyone that believes reality television is great: a series based on the birth of our country is the best reality of all.  You know it has a happy ending....because America has been going for 240 years!

It would be unamerican not to watch every second of these 2 series!

WHOM YOU KNOW HIGHLY RECOMMENDS TURN!

Premiere Date: April 6, 2014

“TURN” is a layered, character-driven spy thriller that unravels the untold story of America’s first spy ring. Set during the Revolutionary War, we are taken behind the battlefront to a shadow war fought by everyday heroes: men and women who defy king and family to create a new nation while vowing to keep their work a secret. Based on remarkable new research in the book “Washington’s Spies,” by Alexander Rose, “TURN” centers around Abraham Woodhull, a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island. Abraham bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring: an unlikely team of secret agents who help George Washington turn the tide of the war in favor of the Rebels. Their daring efforts revolutionized the art of espionage, giving birth to modern spycraft in all its moral complexity. “TURN” transforms history into suspenseful and resonant entertainment.
