All Mercedes are not the same: some are just superior.
Namely, the racing AMG versions!
From the Red Pig to the Red AMG Hammer you will meet each edition with vigor!
We highly commend the kickoff of this great work with honoring John Fitch by Sam Posey, both of whom we laud with high honors! You might even know some of us here.
This book is so intelligently written and educates both the casual enthusiast and the die-hard equally. The worldwide presence of Mercedes AMG is showcased including Europe and South America and of course the greatest outside Daytona, Lime Rock Park. You'll see that "collabs" are not such a new phenomenon and it's not some invention of the influencer of the month that will come and go: collabs have been happening for ages! Check out the McLaren/AMG one, among others. Make sure you read this book in its entirely and just don't flip through the pages because you want to get to AMG ONE, which might be Peachy's favorite.
For everyone that reads us that also has a pretty good command of French like Peachy, note some parts of the book you see in three languages: German, English and French which is pretty neat. We also like how auto shows and their evolution are covered around the world including Los Angeles, Paris and Geneva (check out our New York coverage this year here; obviously Corvette Racing is our favorite.)
Start your holiday shopping early...this is a great gift for anyone that likes racing or things that go!

Arriving November 4th and perfectly timed for the holidays, MERCEDES-AMG: RACE-BRED PERFORMANCE, by Matt DeLorenzo, is the must-have history of the high performance arm of Mercedes-Benz.
For decades, Mercedes-Benz was synonymous with luxury and refinement. But beneath the polished chrome and leather interiors lurked a racing spirit—one that Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher unleashed in 1967 when they founded AMG. MERCEDES-AMG: RACE-BRED PERFORMANCE tells the full-throttle story of how these two engineers transformed a staid sedan into the legendary Red Pig racer, launching one of Germany’s most iconic performance brands
From dominating endurance circuits to building street-legal beasts like the AMG Hammer, DeLorenzo, traces AMG’s evolution from independent tuner to official Mercedes-Benz partner, and ultimately, to a fully integrated performance division. Along the way, it showcases the cars that defined eras—from the brutal Black Series to today’s electrified hypercars. Insinde this hardcover, 224-page tome you'll find: Rare photos and behind-the-scenes insights
The full arc of AMG’s racing and engineering legacy
Profiles of standout models like the Hammer, C63, and AMG ONE
Coverage of prototypes, special editions, and motorsport milestones
Whether you're a die-hard enthusiast, owner, or just appreciate German engineering at its most unhinged, MERCEDES-AMG: RACE-BRED PERFORMANCE is a must-have for your shelf, garage, or media library.

Motorbooks History

It’s only fitting that our story begins in a garage.
The year was 1965, and North America was in dire need of quality car, motorcycle, and racing books. Luckily for gearheads, a transplanted Englishman and lifelong car guy named Thomas Warth took it upon himself to feed the need. From the stalls of his humble Minneapolis, Minnesota, garage, Warth launched a modest automotive book mail-order business selling transportation tomes, many of them imported from England. Thus was born Classic Motorbooks.
In 1973, Classic Motorbooks began publishing its own books, which it made available alongside those from leading transportation publishers around the world. This move put Motorbooks in the driver’s seat, allowing it to define the best books for enthusiasts and then engage the motoring world’s best photographers and writers to create them—an approach that continues to this day.
Besides our award-winning writers and shooters, we also partner with some of the biggest names in the business, like Harley-Davidson, Chevrolet, Ford, Hot Rod and Cycle World magazines, Dodge, and SRT—all to give us access to the best stories and the coolest photography. Alongside its own titles, Motorbooks continues to offer the best books from the other premier transportation publishers, fine-tuned exclusively for the enthusiast by gearheads who are just as obsessed as you are.
Motorbooks has embraced the gearhead life. If it has wheels, we dig it. Wrench, Race, Ride, Roll, Read: that’s our mantra. Now go burn some rubber.
