We might include restaurants in the future if the owners reach out to us.

From endless activities to calm, quiet days spent sunbathing and beachcombing, visitors are finding just what they’re looking for in a Florida vacation along the 23 miles of world-famous iconic shores of Daytona Beach. With area investments in progress and more hotel, attraction, dining and shopping options than ever, now is the perfect time to (re)experience all that Daytona Beach has to offer, including these new developments:
New Airlift – In addition to nonstop flights from Atlanta (Delta) and Charlotte (American Airlines) year-round, the area offers seasonal nonstop service between Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) and Philadelphia (PHL), Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) and Washington, D.C. (DCA) via American Airlines.
World-Class Pickleball Complex – Pictona, a premier pickleball facility, opened in 2020 with 24 courts – 8 of them covered with “skybox” viewing – restaurant, clubhouse and more. The facility, which currently hosts national and international competitions, is expanding to double the number of courts to 48 (16 of them covered) and add a championship 1200-seat stadium and a 10,000 square foot clubhouse. When the $5 million project is complete, Pictona will be the largest pickleball facility on the east coast of Florida.
Cars, Craft and Culture – The Ultimate Daytona Beach Trail Guide takes visitors off the beaten path to explore history, experience culture, and see some of the most iconic (an Instagram-worthy) locations in the area. The Mural Trail is the newest addition to the Guide and features a growing list of outdoor street art.

60th Rolex 24 At DAYTONA Weekend – This historic sportscar racing event that draws international drivers and fans, is set for Jan. 27-30, 2022. The Taste of Daytona offers an inclusive racing and dining event experience.
Buc-ee’s – A Texas-size favorite, this “World’s Largest Gas Station” also offers a 50,000 square foot retail store with a fascinating mix of tasty food, unique merchandise, clothing, souvenirs and so much more.
State-of-the Art Indoor Karting – Speedway Indoor Karting (SIK) opened in Daytona Beach and its state-of-the-art electric powered karts give guests of all ages and skill levels a full racing experience on the 16-turn road course with multiple elevation changes and a slick tri-oval.
New Eateries - The area’s offerings are constantly expanding. New to the list: Mama Foo Foo, located at the picturesque Halifax Harbor Marina in downtown Daytona Beach, offers uber-cool décor, unique tapas and drinks, and a can’t-be-beat view of sailboats and playful dolphins! Also downtown is Little Italy’s Ristorante. At popular Bellair Plaza, Big Tuna’s Beach Bar & Grill has everything from fresh seafood and signature drinks to tasty burgers and fries. And Fugu Sushi Bar provides upscale décor, Intracoastal Waterway views and a delightful array of options in downtown Ormond Beach.
Riverfront Esplanade - The park that runs the length of historic downtown Daytona Beach is being transformed. When fully complete in 2023, the Riverfront Esplanade will extend a mile along the Halifax River and include a promenade along the water's edge, running and walking trails, and landscaping designed to encourage relaxation and reflection including water features, shade trees and raised botanical gardens.

#PeachyontheLinks #FloridaPeachy Palm Beach's Legendary PGA National Resort Unveils Multi-Million Dollar Transformation

This winter, the iconic resort will welcome guests to a new era of tailored luxury with redesigned guest rooms, innovative culinary offerings, and activities for every member of the family

South Florida's world-class PGA National Resort meets at the center of world class golf and tailored luxury, reimagining the family resort experience through a stunning and extensive $100 million transformation. Set to launch in early 2022, the revitalization of this iconic resort features fully updated guest rooms and meeting spaces, new dining concepts, wellness offerings and new programming, all offering guests an unforgettable experience and members a sense of community.

"With this transformation, nothing was out of bounds. Our goal was to disrupt the misconception of a one-dimensional golf resort with a 360-degree luxury travel experience," said Patrick Brophy, Managing Director of PGA National Resort. "In creating this tropical paradise, every aspect of our redesign was thoughtfully planned for a modern and current take on Palm Beach Gardens from its inception. The key to this revitalization was finding a balance between world-class golf and imaginative dining, wellness and resort lifestyle."

Guest Rooms & Suites

The resort's 360 guest rooms and private villas were designed by KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group for curated comfort with hand-selected custom furnishings that pay homage to the charm and elegance of 1960s Palm Beach chic, a theme that runs throughout the property. The rooms are a complete departure from its previous iteration - featuring wingback headboards, bed frames in dark brown and crème, accentuated with custom vintage black-and-white palm-leaf wallpaper, plush area rugs and lacquered and caned case goods. Select rooms feature dusty rose velvet curved sofas and all rooms offer an outdoor lounge, allowing guests the option to relax indoors or outdoors and truly embrace the resort lifestyle.

Common Areas

1960s Palm Beach chic inspired a timeless vibrancy to the design world and, through the work of KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, swagger meets modern luxury. The award-winning firm, led by Principal Lisa Simeone, worked to bring back the nostalgic look and feel throughout the resort while incorporating modern touches, resulting in a bespoke experience that begins as soon as guests arrive. Stepping onto the black-and-white patterned carpet, guests are immediately transported to a luxurious and sleek tropical paradise with an outdoor main entrance framed with a striking mirrored red door, vibrant red and white awnings, and lush greenery.

Tradition and sleek modernity meet in the lobby with its two grandiose chandeliers resembling upside-down palm leaves, complete with '60s-inspired pocket seating and period furniture pieces that include a light cream semi-circle sofa paired with frayed ottomans and retro chairs in varying colors, patterns and designs from gold and pink to cheetah and burnt orange. The reception area takes on a more understated design with a neutral color palette, primarily light- and medium-toned wood elements as well as subdued gold wall panels.

The focal point of the redesigned lobby is the bar, illuminated at its center by a massive replica of a banyan tree featuring over 1,500 LED lights inspired by the legendary trees that reside within the City of Palm Beach Gardens, with hand blown glass molded with metal. The stylish and sophisticated bar features a striking dark burgundy and black marbled counter set against vibrant pinks and greens. Guests can take a seat on palm-green cushioned counter stools while sipping on classic cocktails while they plan the night's adventure.

Dining

Beginning in late 2021, the resort will introduce six culinary concepts - including two signature restaurants helmed by award-winning chefs - all designed by ROHE Creative. With something for every member of the family from high-end fine dining to a bright and whimsical ice cream shop, PGA National Resort will change the game on dining in South Florida, allowing guests to be guided by their palate throughout the day. Offerings will include:
Birdie's Diner – A classic slice of mid-century Americana, Birdie's leans into the retro look and feel of the resort with diner favorites served right at the first hole. Nostalgic and upbeat, the current menu celebrates quintessential American cuisine with a South Florida spin including Piña Colada Pancakes and a Cuban Panini. The diner is designed to be effortlessly expressive with an elevated take on the classic diner booth seating in neutral beiges and brown hues throughout.
The Butcher's Club – Helmed by "Top Chef" Season 13 winner and Executive Chef of the acclaimed Stubborn Seed in Miami, Jeremy Ford, The Butcher's Club will offer guests a high-end dining experience in a sleek, stylish atmosphere with an air of 1950s cool. With an anticipated early 2022 opening, guests dining at The Butcher's Club will be transported back to another era in a dramatic setting of black marble tables beneath polished gold chandeliers, accented with tones of warm gold and dark wood. The menu will include selections from the raw bar as well as select dry aged cuts paired with an innovative cocktail menu and an extensive wine collection. The Butcher's Club will be open for both hotel guests and for locals to enjoy.
Honeybelle – Led by esteemed chef, "Top Chef" alum, and Palm Beach resident, Lindsay Autry, Honeybelle pays homage to the timeless beach cafes of South Florida. When this all-day dining restaurant opens in early 2022, guests will dine and unwind in this airy and refreshing space, offering both indoor and outdoor seating that encapsulates the Palm Beach chic vibe with palm-leaf green and white cushioned chairs covered by pastel green umbrellas.
The MKT – For the guest on the go, The MKT will offer a fast casual option, offering light bites and beverages when it opens late 2021. Bright and cheerful, The MKT features chic retro flooring with pink, white and black hues. For those who wish to linger a little longer, rattan chairs and mustard yellow lounge seating will be complemented with marble dining tables and pink ottomans. Green palm-leaf wallpapering and vintage beach umbrellas with flirty pink fringe add a pop of color to the space.
Sugarplume – Sweetness reigns supreme at Sugarplume, PGA's new specialty chocolate shop, with eye-catching chocolate confections and imported delicacies designed for indulging. Providing guests with an Insta-worthy moment, the confectionery, slated to open in late 2021, features fun flamingo door handles that lead to a vibrant space with a striking mosaic pink flamingo flooring welcoming guests in for sweet treats. This extremely unique chocolate shop will become a retail gifting destination when it opens, allowing guests to custom create an assortment of chocolate gifts from around the world.
Big Drip – Every day will be sundae funday at the Big Drip, the place to enjoy frozen treats with family or friends at the resort. Opening in early 2022, the Big Drip will invite guests to cool off in this retro ice cream shop featuring a neon pink "Treat Yo Self" light-up sign on the shop's bright blue wall with the illusion of ice cream dripping down the sides.

The Spa at PGA National

Set to open in early 2022, The Spa at PGA National will invite guests to experience a new era of wellness. Designed by V Starr, the South Florida design group, the 40,000-square-foot spa will be an oasis of opulence for those who wish to indulge like a pro. It will feature mineral pools that glisten in the warm sun and soothing sounds from flowing fountains complemented by tropical prints and a neutral palette of subdued golds, cremes, pinks and light wood elements in its design. Drawing inspiration from the lush South Florida locality and serenity, the expansive "resort within the resort" will feature a pink and white salon for hair styling and nail services; a 1950s-inspired barbershop with a robust collage of vintage golf photography; wet and dry treatment rooms; outdoor pool deck and bar; and a retail shop. The spa's revitalization also includes the addition of a couple's treatment room as well as two Himalayan salt rooms. Capping off the ultimate in self-care, after treatments, guests can soak in one of three mineral pools with enriching salts from around the world, including France and Turkey.

New Andy Staple-Designed Golf Courses

The rich history of this resort began in 1983 with the Ryder Cup and since then has been a destination for those looking to play on immaculate fairways and greens. In addition to the 90 holes of championship golf across five courses, the resort now features two new, Andy Staples designed courses: "The Match" and "The Staple".

Encouraging match versus stroke play, "The Match" course is the perfect addition to the resort and perhaps the most highly-anticipated new golf course opening in the U.S. this year. It offers a truly distinct experience that is destined to generate spirited conversation among golf course design enthusiasts while also providing a canvas for players of all abilities in a non-traditional setting.

"The Staple" is 9 holes of pure, rollicking fun – with holes ranging from 60-130 yards and featuring a variety of unique undulations, funneling shots, and in some cases, difficult-to-reach shelves. Originally designed as The Squire in 1983 by the design duo of Tom and George Fazio, the reimagination plan by Andy Staples was to completely renovate the course, while looking for ways to expand its appeal to both the avid golfer and casual player, as well as beginners and even non-golfers. Made out of 2 holes from the old Squire course, the overall design of The Staple provides a casual venue ideal for plenty of after-hours play and practice options. These courses, along with the state-of-the-art Sports and Racquet Club featuring 19 tennis courts add a new layer to the traditional golf resort experience, encouraging first time players to join the golf community and bridge the past with the future in resort play.

Banyan Buddies Kids Club

As part of the resort's transformation, it was important to design activities, outlets and programming that the entire family could enjoy. With Banyan Buddies, parents can be assured that their children will stay engaged with an innovative activities menu that offers programming throughout the day. Styled as a playful jungle, children will find toucans and chameleons blending in as colorful wall art, along with stadium seating and a complete indoor playground all under a banyan tree.

Meeting and Event Spaces

PGA National Resort offers 40,000 square feet of indoor meeting and event spaces and more than 20,000 square feet of outdoor options. From luxurious weddings to C-level meetings, the resort will cater to all audiences, ensuring each guest has everything needed for a successful event.

In addition to these new features, the resort has plans to unveil brand new spaces for guests throughout 2022, including a new member's club and a pool complex with multiple water features. These new additions will position the resort as the new pre-eminent location for galas, weddings, C-suite level meetings and other social functions.

ABOUT PGA NATIONAL RESORT

Located in South Florida's Palm Beach Gardens, PGA National Resort is a legendary golf, vacation, culinary, meetings, events and spa destination. The resort is currently undergoing a stunning $100 million capital investment revitalization resulting in a dramatic transformation touching every aspect of the celebrated property.

Host of the annual Honda Classic, the resort will launch six new culinary concepts including signature restaurants by "Top Chef" alumni Jeremy Ford of Stubborn Seed in Miami and Lindsay Autry of The Regional Kitchen in downtown Palm Beach; a luxury spa redesigned by V Starr, led by tennis star Venus Williams; innovative Andy Staples-designed layouts for golfers; a brand new "Banyan Buddies" kids club experience; redesigned guestrooms and common areas; and more.

In France, 38 design and art schools will take part in “Mickey Is Art,” a unique contest in which students will craft works of Mickey, inspired by their favorite artistic movement. The winning designs will be displayed this summer in 12 major train stations in France and for sale this September at Galerie Glénat in Paris.
Disney store will continue to celebrate milestone moments for Mickey Mouse with the Mickey Mouse Memories Collection (launched Jan. 2018), a monthly, limited-release series of 12 collectible plush, mugs and cloisonné pins inspired by Mickey’s most memorable movie roles.
Disney Publishing Worldwide will introduce more than 30 titles globally as part of Mickey’s 90th, including books, arts & crafts and comics.

In addition, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club will be celebrating Mickey’s 90th throughout 2018:
D23 and the Walt Disney Archives, in partnership with Walt Disney Animation Studios, have commissioned legendary Disney animator Mark Henn to paint Mickey’s official 90th birthday portrait. Henn follows in the footsteps of artists such as Disney Legend John Hench, who crafted five of Mickey’s official portraits. Henn animated Mickey for Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) and is currently at work on Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018). The new portrait will debut on the cover of the fall issue of Disney twenty-three, a quarterly publication from D23.
This November, D23 will present Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, a two-day event at Walt Disney World Resort featuring panels, presentations and fun-filled entertainment.
This year’s annual D23 Gold Member gift is an exclusive box set of 23 special Mickey Mouse mementos—authentic reproductions of such treasured keepsakes as pages from the script of Steamboat Willie and a miniature animation cel from Parade of the Award Nominees (1932).

To join the conversation on social, fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #Mickey90.

Mickey’s birthday is celebrated in honor of the release of his first theatrical film, Steamboat Willie, on November 18, 1928, at the Colony Theatre in New York City. Since then, he has starred in more than 100 cartoons and can currently be seen on Disney Channel in the Mickey Mouse cartoon series and on Disney Junior in Mickey and the Roadster Racers.

#TakeaTriptoFlorida #SportyPeachy #WhomYouKnow @SurfExpo #SurfExpo Surf Expo kicks off the year with an exciting January show, delivering increased attendance and industry morale

Surf Expo’s January 2018 show in Orlando opened with a strong pulse and optimism flowing through the aisles throughout the three-day show. With attendance topping nearly 28,000, the show featured more than 1,000 booths showcasing 1,400+ brands and lines.

Roy Turner, SVP and Surf Expo Show Director commented, “We saw strong buyer attendance from all across the globe- from Hawaii to the Caribbean and from Costa Rica to Maine; representing stores in all categories including coastal shops and surf shops.”

“It was really great to see so many stores from the Caribbean in particular who couldn’t attend the last show due to Hurricane Irma,” added Leslie Burbank, Manager & Buyer, Red Otter Outfitters.

The January edition of Surf Expo is surf hardgoods and accessory focused, showing the latest boards from brands including Firewire, Slater Designs, WRV, Rusty Surfboards, Pyzel, Savage and Ricky Carroll. Key events included the Florida Shape Off and the 2018 Induction Ceremony for the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame.

Dan McNamara, CEO of Pyzel Surfboards commented, “Surf Expo is a great show for us to connect with all of our retailers and spend some quality time talking shop and getting some real business done. It's one of the best national surf shows there is. "

Brenton Schulze, second time exhibitor 4Ocean’s Director of Sales said, “As a burgeoning startup company, Surf Expo was our first choice on the list of shows out there, and rightly so. Our ROI exceeded expectations and I absolutely plan on not only continuing to participate, but growing that participation in years to come.”

Surf Expo’s new Bluewater section made its debut, with a collection of apparel and accessory brands catering to the inshore/offshore saltwater lifestyle, including YETI, Salt Life, Scales, Heybo Outdoors, Bimini Bay Outfitters, and Sunday Afternoons. Industry icon Flip Pallot was the guest of honor at the Bluewater Happy Hour. Two flats boats from Hell’s Bay Boatworks were the centerpiece display in the new section.

“For us, Surf Expo is an additional branding opportunity; another place for us to see our customers and meet potential ones. With the Bluewater section it just brings more and more of our type of customers to Surf Expo,” said Chris Peterson, Owner/President of Hell’s Bay Boatworks.

The show featured two fashion shows each day, a full line up of Professional Learning labs led by industry experts on topics ranging from How to Win on Amazon’s Buy Box & Amazon Fulfillment Strategies, to Retail Cash Flow Improvement Tools and Content Strategies for Winning on Google.

Event Highlights
The Florida Shape Off sponsored by Vissla attracted a crowd around the shaping bay each day to watch the craftsmen at work live during the show. The collaboration with Vissla’s Creators and Innovators mantra brought the area to life with a vintage East Coast surfboard display, the Dream Steeple van that was built by Jay Nelson, open D’Blanc cube with podium curation, and custom resin work from Stokehouse Unlimiteds’ owner, Paul Naude. The curated space was designed to feel open, and allow the shows attendees to experience the space. The Surfboards were a natural draw and the Dream Steeple made young and old envision sunny days on the beach and driving along the coast.
Shapers from across the country competed to replicate an iconic Richard Munson board, as a tribute to Munson’s contribution to the art of surfboard shaping and the industry. The shaping began on Thursday with Jeff Haney, followed by Stu Sharpe and Jesse Fernandez. Friday’s line up included Carl Schaper, Bill Johnson and Jordan Brazie the 2017 Shape Off Winner. Pat Rawson and Costa Rica’s Juan Diego Evangelista rounded out the competition on Saturday. After close scrutiny by the panel of judges, Cocoa Beach’s Stu Sharpe took home the $1,000 prize and trophy, and Jeff Haney was runner up.
The 2018 East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame Induction ceremony was held on Friday night. The evening opened with introduction of the next generation of young surfing hopefuls as the 2018 ESA All Star Team’s 35 members took the stage in front of an audience of generations of surfers gathered to celebrate and honor the sport and the athletes.
The night was an epic gathering of the who’s who in the surf industry to honor and celebrate the induction of the latest class into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame for their contributions to East Coast surfing. Inductees included the Southeast’s Ben Bourgeois, Mickey McCarthy, Johnson, David Nuckles, Debra Swaney, David Carson and Scott Busbey, and Greg “Grog” Mesanko, Kevin Grondin and Skill Johnson from the northeast. The second-ever Special Recognition Award was bestowed upon Alexander Hume Ford, played an immense role in the spread of surfing’s popularity in Hawaii in the early 1900’s.

The Skate Park at Surf Expo featured a mini ramp build by Team Pain and a flat ground area for electric skateboards. Skaters from shop teams from across the country competed in Mini Ramp Clash, presented by All I Need skateboards. Evan Mansolillo from Naraganset Surf Shop in RI took first place, Kevin Klemme from Solstice Skate Shop in New Bedford MA placed second, Joe Handy from Talent Skatepark & Shop in South Burlington VT took third place, Chase Lieder from Sunset Surf Shack in Montauk NY and 2018 ESA All Star Team member, took fourth place, followed by Meagan Guy from Graffiti Skate Zone in Palm Bay Florida in fifth place.

Jim Archibald, Owner of Archie’s Surf Shop in Ontario, Canada has been buying at Surf Expo for more than 33 years and said, “Surf Expo produces an elite show, one we all enjoy attending and can’t wait until the next one.” He added, “That cannot be said for many other shows. It’s really well thought out and very productive for us.”

Surf Expo’s next show is September 6-8, 2018, with Demo Day on September 5. This will be the second Demo Day at their new location at Bill Frederick Park, at Turkey Lake. Registration for the September show will open in mid April.

The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes has launched Ritz Kids’ newest experience—the Ritz Kids Badge Program. Children ages 4-12 are invited to participate in the new initiative, offering an opportunity to embark on a number of adventures at the 500-acre Grande Lakes Orlando resort, which also includes a JW Marriott hotel, a Ritz-Carlton Spa and an 18-hole golf course amongst other experiences.

The new Ritz Kids Badge Program features a series of challenges in and around the property, all designed to encourage little ones to celebrate their innate curiosity and sense of adventure. Following completion of the first, mandatory challenge—known as the “Grande Lakes scavenger hunt”—kids will be awarded a Ritz Kids backpack or T-shirt to wear through the remaining 23 challenges, which are to be completed in any order they want. The program includes a range of exciting activities, from embarking on a kayak eco-tour or Sunrise Safari and partaking in a Surrey Bike excursion to speed boat racing and visiting the Ritz Kids garden to meet the resort’s chickens. Guests of The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels can take advantage of the many family activities at Grande Lakes Orlando through participating in the program, including fishing, bird watching, golfing and more.

The program works as follows:
Once the child has met the requirements of each specific challenge, they are eligible to collect a “button” for that successfully completed activity
After 12 “buttons,” a child receives a Ritz-Carlton plush lion and certificate
After 24 “buttons,” the child becomes “Honorary General Manager for a Day” which includes a customary jacket, nametag, pin, ID, and lunch with the General Manager, Chef or Hotel Manager
12 of the challenges occur every day, while 12 are exclusive and only awarded seasonally, offering the opportunity to keep the fun going and get little ones excited for their return visit to the resort

Ritz Kids at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes offers children the opportunity to become fully immersed in Florida’s rich history and biodiversity. The journey starts at check-in, when little ones begin their quest to learn more about the unexpected history of central Florida and the footprints it has left on the region. This new Ritz Kids component furthers the brand’s commitment to Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, which invites little ones to discover adventure and exploration through four pillars: water, land, environmental responsibility and culture. Positioned at the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, the resort provides families the chance to experience a taste of Old Florida. Orlando may have evolved into a bustling metropolis, but the Everglades remain an unparalleled landscape and the “largest subtropical wilderness” in the United States.

About Grande Lakes Orlando
The 500-acre Grande Lakes Orlando estate features a 582-room Ritz-Carlton and 1,000-room JW Marriott hotel situated at the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. @ashleyfreiberg @gosiardest @Audi @Rolex24Hours @DISupdates First Grand Sport-class all-female driver team to race in Audi R8 LMS GT4 debut at Daytona Debuting this week at Daytona, the all-new Audi R8 LMS GT4 will compete in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, driven by the all-female team of Ashley Freiberg (USA) and Gosia Rdest (Poland). The much-anticipated debut of the Audi R8 LMS GT4 fulfills all categories for Audi Sport customer racing – GT3, GT4 and TCR

Debuting this week at Daytona, the all-new Audi R8 LMS GT4 will compete in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, driven by the all-female team of Ashley Freiberg (USA) and Gosia Rdest (Poland). The much-anticipated debut of the Audi R8 LMS GT4 fulfills all categories for Audi Sport customer racing – GT3, GT4 and TCR.

Supported by GMG Racing, car owner Daren Jorgensen and the Audi Tire Center, Freiberg and Rdest will join a 27-car field during the four-hour endurance race in the Grand Sport (GS) class. This is the first time an all-female driver team has competed in the GS class and marks the first all-female team to compete in motorsports since the merger of Grand-Am and the American Le Mans Series in 2014.

Ashley Freiberg comes to the GT4 with a wealth of experience at Daytona. Freiberg was the first woman to win an overall race at Daytona and in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Her teammate Gosia Rdest competed in the Audi Sport TT Cup from 2015-2017 and has both TCR and GT4 racing experience. Rdest placed first in the GT4 class at the Dubai 24-hour two weeks ago and will continue the season with Phoenix Racing in the 2018 SRO GT4 European Series.

"Women are few and far between in motorsports, so the opportunity to join an all-women team with Audi is really exciting. My gender doesn’t make a difference when I'm behind the wheel. I still have to do a good job, and drive the car hard; the data and lap times don't lie,” said Ashley Freiberg. “I think we'll be a strong team, not because we're female, but because we're drivers that are ready to do the job well.”

An all-female lineup under the Audi flag has been in the works since the inception of the Audi Sport customer racing program in 2012, according to Tristan Herbert, senior manager of Motorsport and Customer Racing. “It’s only fitting that we continue this progress at the competition level within customer racing. We chose these drivers because they're talented, professional and lay down impressive lap times in the front of the field.”

Audi women in motorsports
Freiberg and Rdest follow in the footsteps of other Audi women—such as Michèle Mouton, Leena Gade and Rahel Frey—who forged their way in motorsports.

Michèle Mouton came to fame as an off-road rally driver competing in the World Rally Championship for the Audi factory team. She took four victories and finished runner-up in the drivers' world championship in 1982 and went on to win the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 1985. Mouton serves as the President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, continuing to champion the diversification of the racing industry.

Leena Gade took to the sport on the tarmac in the role of Audi race engineer, becoming the first female engineer to win at Le Mans 24 Hours. Gade went on to win at Le Mans 24 Hours three times and now continues to promote the sport as an Ambassador of the FIA Commission for Women in Motorsport.

Today, Audi driver Rahel Frey is making her way through the ranks since her start with the brand in 2011. Concluding a successful 2017 season, Fray raced in the ADAC GT Masters and finished 3rd in the Audi R8 LMS GT4 in SP-X class at the 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours for Audi Sport Team Phoenix.

“I feel very privileged and honored to drive progress for women in motorsports. I have always thought that it's not the gender, but the passion, endurance and hard work that are the mainstay of any winner,” said driver Gosia Rdest.

The first practice will begin at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 24. The 4-hour Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race starts at 1 pm on Friday, January 26. Visit IMSA.TV to watch live, download the IMSA app, or catch the rebroadcast on Saturday, February 10 on FS1.
