The Campaign for Wool tells Whom You Know:
The Campaign for Wool is honoured to announce HM The King remains as The Patron, supporting the Campaign and its educational activities and events to remind the world of wool's support for the planet and its natural, renewable and biodegradable properties.
Campaign for Wool 2024 Retains HM King Charles III as Patron. The Campaign for Wool is honoured to announce HM The King remains as The Patron, supporting the Campaign and its educational activities and events to remind the world of wool’s support for the planet and its natural, renewable and biodegradable properties. Wool Month will take place in October 2024 and the theme this year will be ‘Check It’s Wool’. (PRNewsfoto/The Campaign for Wool)

The Campaign for Wool was HM King Charles's personal initiative when he was The Prince of Wales in 2008 and was officially launched in 2010 in a bid to assist wool growers from throughout the Commonwealth to challenge the rise of toxic synthetic fibres in the worlds of fashion, interiors and the built environment. As Patron, over the past decade of the Campaign, the then Prince of Wales has visited numerous regions of the UK, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa to engage with wool growers on how best to explain the distinct environmental excellence and ecological benefits of wool in all its end uses.

The Campaign fits perfectly with HM The King's recently announced personal focus of Climate, Community, Commonwealth and Culture. Wool is more important today, moreover as climate change and plastic over consumption hits the headlines on a weekly basis, requesting all of us to be more considerate in our choices. The Patron has passionately endorsed the natural benefits and use of wool, issues he raised on the introduction of mainstream plastic use in his student days over 50 years ago. Choosing wool will help to safeguard the planet for future generations.

The Campaign is supported by companies across the globe, including farmers, the wool processing pipeline, designers, brands and retailers. 2024 will see the Campaign launch some exciting initiatives and collaborations for Wool Month which takes place throughout October.

#MovietimeInManhattan @WBD AMERICAN SNIPER COMES TO 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAYTM AND DIGITAL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY WHOM YOU KNOW @MANHATTANPEACHY #PEACHYDEEGAN

This post is dedicated to Peachy's late grandfather, a World War Two Marine purple heart veteran, and his brother who was killed in the Pacific in the Battle of Iwo Jima.  We know you are reading up there Grampy!
American Sniper has previously been featured on Whom You Know in January 2015 and May 2015.

***

We had greater anticipation for American Sniper than any other movie in recent memory, and not only did it live up to our expectations: it exceeded them.  It is a must-see for all Americans and everyone that is a friend of America.   American Sniper is one story that represents many sacrifices veterans and soldiers throughout the ages have lived, and it's necessary for you as a recipient of American freedom to know what the cost of it is.

The brilliance of Clint Eastwood's masterful direction shines golden over every shot and poignant moment of this epic tribute that you all can own starting tomorrow!  We expect sales to go through the roof and thank you to Warner Brothers for including us: we are honored to review this great work.

The movie opens overseas and shows and doesn't tell the patient, strategic mindset of the phenomenal sniper, Chris Kyle, the protagonist and legend of this movie.   The cinematography and script could not be more stellar and one of many examples of how they bring the audience in is showing how the soldiers taste the dirt in the air and what it feels like to literally pull the trigger.  Pulling the trigger is more than one action: this film shows every aspect of that, the most powerful of which is the emotional struggle, which is also a moral one as you'll see.

We commend the decision to flashback to scenes of the childhood of Chris Kyle, as it is formative in knowing how he became who he was.  Kyle was a gifted hunter from the start, and the magic started to happen when he enlists in seals training. Chris Kyle is the human embodiment of the idea of a protector, and his loyalty and allegiance to his country should be praised constantly.  Later, we see Chris Kyle hit targets over a mile away with his signature deadly accuracy.

It's not all battle scenes: the best parts are the ones where Chris Kyle's personality and humanity have the spotlight.  We love the scene where he meets his wife at a bar, and she is just as likeable as he is.  He's not always a tough guy and watching her emotionally penetrate his tough exterior is a terrific character study: he wins a big stuffed bear at an amusement park for her.  Of course he was target shooting.  Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller in tandem could not have executed their roles any better as they gave life to the epic story.

Anyone that was in New York during 9/11 will have another moment that hits hard when the 9/11 scene comes up on television, which further fuels Kyle's protective nature.  His four tours of duty are testament to his supreme patriotism, including one right after his wedding day.

As the characters overseas hit the screen, you wonder which ones are on our side and which ones you can trust.  It's artfully played out and the sequence is pure brilliance.  The speed at which the movie evolves is total alacrity.  The scenes back home in Texas are a sharp contrast, and reality is captured.  Taya emphasizes that "it's about us" and we surmise many military wives feel her at every moment.  When he returns stateside, Chris Kyle's reactions to ordinary sounds like in a car garage or a lawnmower trigger a different reaction, and his ability to relate is a challenge as it is for many returning soldiers.

One of the most powerful scenes in American Sniper is in the plane returning home with flags in the caskets, and the following military funeral.  The triumph of good against evil is a battle that everyone fights today (thank you also to the NYPD and NYFD) is an overriding theme in this epic drama.
American Sniper is not a war movie.  It's a humanity movie.  It is about gratitude, fortitude and powerful courage.  Chris, we hope you are enjoying it up there!

American Sniper is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.

About the Film

From director Clint Eastwood comes “American Sniper,” starring Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, whose skills as a sniper made him a hero on the battlefield. But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield, and as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to “leave no one behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

Their Second Hit on #WhomYouKnow #LaGrandeBoucherie by Emil Stefkov led Daily in New York by General Manager #AlexGerea #Cuisine #Francaise #Traditionelle @boucherienyc

Dit: Oui Oui Escargots S'il vous plait!!!
That means say yes to the escargot, please!
Also say yes to the carnivorous selections, it IS the Grand Butcher:
Peachy Deegan and Alex Gerea

What's better than April in Paris?
May at LA GRAND BOUCHERIE, mes amis!
We're talking to you, readers, whom we consider friends from a distance.
And the avid readers know that French is the second language of Whom You Know, evidenced by recent annual press releases of past years.  Recently, we worked with both the French Consulate and the Academie Culinaire de France, not to mention big hits recently by stellar Peachy's Pick Le Rivage and the MADE IN FRANCE BRAND SINCE 1948, DegrenneWe're also giving you play-by-play as we hear it on the Olympic Torch.

Soooo, or alors, La Grand Boucherie is right up our alley and even if you haven't eaten there before, you will be struck by its absolute gorgeous setting and that alone will make you want to dine there in obvious style.  We first visited in the winter of 2023, and this is our second time there and it was even better.  If you are reading closely, you know that there is a big difference between being featured once and being featured twice, and frequency of features indicates how much we love you.  Actions speak louder than words.  But we will elucidate exactly why they are not just a pretty face.
A lot of people are into yoga for mediation.  The scale of deliciousness of the escargot at La Grand Boucherie put Peachy in a trance and delicately dining upon them is a great way to mediate in the world according to Peachy Deegan.  You will escape any New York troubles you may have and be transported away to the snails, shallots, lemon, parsley and garlic butter.  The escargots are imported from France we understand.  The plate is hot so don't go so crazy that you burn yourself.  There are two snails in each circle so you have a total of a dozen.  Peachy preferred the Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc to team up with this culinary feat.
Obviously, they give you the right fork.
Bravo to their salad selections.
Everyone remembers Mover and Shaker Mireille Guiliano and French Women Don't Get Fat, need we say more.  You don't need to tell French people to eat their vegetables and we know this firsthand from our friends in Paris.  Above, meet La Salade Nicoise: Bibb lettuce, tomato, hard boiled eggs, AMAZING SAFFRON POTATOES (remember Peachy is Irish therefore somewhat an authority on potatoes especially having resided in Cork, Ireland), peppers, haricots verts, breakfast radish, confit tuna, anchovy and olives.  Of course they listened and put the dressing on the side for Ms. Uberpicky.  Another note, they understand her level of pickiness here!
Eat the rainbow, indeed.  It's both delicious and an artful presentation.
Avid readers know that green beans are Peachy's favorite vegetable, so Salade de Haricots Verts et De Moules was a dream come true.  Or a REVE.  That's dream in French.  Super unique, it's perfect for spring: mussels, green beans, shallots and dijonnaise mustard vinaigrette, which was a well-balanced and flavorful dressing that did not overwhelm the salad (take note, a lot of other restaurants.)
Additionally, there are NO SHELLS which we appreciate!
Dinner is not supposed to be a lot of work.
Carnivores, rejoice.
Happiness is eating any of the seven Pieces du Boucher at La Grand Boucherie.
That means meat.
Boucherie means Butcher.
The flavor and perfection of grilling means they are super serious about your dinner and you are going to love it.  This is the Entrecote Grillee.  We aspire to try the other 4 (not the lamb-Peachy doesn't like lamb) another day...we believe we had Steak Frites last time.
Entrecote Grille is a 12 oz Australian grass-fed ribeye and was medium rare as we asked, evidenced below.   We love the custom knife.  Happiness is steak at La Grand Boucherie with Bordeaux Rouge shown below, and you should absolutely make a reservation because even though they seat 600, General Manager Alex Gerea, who is a pleasure to work with again, told us they had 67,000 reservations in December of 2023 for close to 70,000 spots and in all of 2023 they had 380,000 reservations.
Alex runs a tight ship we can see along with three assistant managers and four captains; it's very well-supervised and professional, and beyond that, approachable and friendly.  Diego Luna was a lovely server to work with this visit.
Can you remember the last time we said something like that about a restaurant this size?
Their tremendous popularity now extends to locations in Washington DC, Chicago and Miami with more on the horizon.
Of course Mademoiselle Peachy opted for the bearnaise sauce to go with it and the roasted mini pepper and salad were ideal steak companions.
We never edit pictures.
The truth is, everything here looks as great as you see and the flavor is in the upper echelons of taste.
The biggest surprise of the night was the brilliantly creative Loup de Mer.  Of course you would expect the steak to rule here, but this Branzino is among the best we've had in recent memory.  It's a dish with layers of flavor hits and a gorgeous presentation: eggplant caviar, confit tomatoes, and aged Parmesan shavings are in perfect proportion to make this a winner.  In fact, Loup de Mer was our favorite dish this visit.  Also, there are chives on top which we also adore and it was the right touch.
Finally, they suggested a festive Ananas Roti Au Miel to finish: Honey roasted pineapple, vanilla Malagasy creme, ginger confit, lime tuiles, pineapple gel and lime sorbet.

We continue to be impressed at a high level and we look forward to seeing what they do next.

#SportyPeachy #FrancePeachy #ParisPeachy Stage 3 — Alpes-de-Haute-Provence sun, outdoor sports and a scent of lavender —the Torch Relay slips into provence mode

The Media Torch relay from the Paris Olympics Tells Whom You Know:

The third day of the Olympic torch on French roads provided a taste of the art of living in Provence! It took the scenic route, with stopovers in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Sisteron, Digne-les-Bains, Forcalquier and Barcelonnette. Alain Boghossian, Odiah Sidibé, Adeline Bilal were just some of the numerous celebrities born and bred in Provence who pounded the tarmac for the Olympic torch. The torch also had a go at the official sport of the region, rock climbing, thanks to a team relay organised by the French Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing. In Manosque, it was Ophélie-Cyrielle Etienne, bronze medallist at the London Games in the 4 x 200 metres freestyle, who brought the day to a close, welcomed by the public who had flocked to the celebration site.

From the pristine splendour of the Alps to the art of living in Provence, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department has a distinct allure. The stage got going on the Verdon, in the shadow of the cliffs looming over Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. Next, it explored the narrow streets of the citadel in Sisteron before heading to the Rocher de la Baume. It shone a light on the Fort de Savoie in Colmars-les-Alpes and Notre-Dame-du-Bourguet cathedral in Forcalquier. Last but not least, the Olympic torch went to Barcelonnette and on to the celebration venue in Manosque.

Celebrities born and bred in Provence among the 107 torchbearers of the stage

Alain Boghossian, a former international footballer, and Odiah Sidibé, an Olympian in the Atlanta and Barcelona Games, in Digne-les-Bains; Adeline Bilal, a world silver medallist in para-triathlon, in Forcalquier; Esther Baron, who shone for an entire decade on the French national swimming team and racked up an impressive collection of medals, in Manosque… Stage 3 of the Torch Relay was a who's who of sport in the region! Elise Allasia, one of the voices of the moment thanks to her soul and R&B beats, also waved at the crowds lining the roads.

The Provençal town of Manosque was the beating heart of the celebrations on Saturday, 11 May. Locals and visitors converged on Parc de la Rochette —the town's major sports venue— as the sun began to dip towards the horizon. The town pulled out all the stops for the activities, ranging from a sports party and a float parade to a superb performance by 180 young people from local dance schools who performed the dance of the games on the sports slab, a concert and much more. The people of Manosque will not be forgetting this experience any time soon.

A region with rock climbing in its DNA

The French Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing organised its team relay on the Falaise de la Baume in Sisteron, right in the heart of an incomparable natural rock climbing site that the climbers of the region have come to love and adore. The Olympic torch followed Thierry Delarue, the captain of the team relay, throughout his ascent. A paragon of French para-climbing, he is part of the French national team and a four-time world champion. He was flanked by a team of 23 rock climbing enthusiasts, including Bertrand David, who has been volunteering for more than three decades and loves introducing others to the sport; the 13-year-old Bilal Keltoumi, who inherited his passion for rock climbing from his father; Sabine Ladel, whose engagement in rock climbing helped her to forge new social connections after disability had taken a toll on her social life; Luis Trullenque Gallén, the chairman of the local climbing club and owner of the climbing shop at the foot of the cliff; and Kira Engle, who coaches climbers in the Roc et Falaise Club. The team relay was also an opportunity to consolidate the inclusion of rock climbing in the Olympic and Paralympic movement. Paris 2024 wishes to deepen the Olympic roots of this sport, which was added to the Olympic line-up at the Tokyo Olympics.

A heartfelt tribute to the track and field Olympic gold medallist Colette Besson

Sandrine Noguès Besson paid an emotional tribute to her mother, Colette Besson, who claimed gold in the 400 metres event at the Mexico 1968 Olympics. The daughter of the former athlete, who was a role model for an entire generation, celebrated the life of her mother in Forcalquier. Colette Besson fought hard for women's sports and promoted sports as a tool for education and empowerment. Her sister, Stéphanie Noguès Besson, will also pay tribute to her in Cassis tomorrow.

Next on the programme is a stage in the Bouches-du-Rhône, another place where land meets the sea. After spending two days in Marseille, the Olympic torch will illuminate the other iconic towns, cities and sites in the department on a route stretching from Cassis to Arles, which will host a team relay on the theme of volleyball.

PROGRAMME FOR SUNDAY, 12 MAY

Celebration venue programme:

Open to the public from 3:30 to 7:45 pm
Free admission, limited capacity

#SportyPeachy #FrancePeachy #ParisPeachy Stage 2 — Torch Relay — Olympic Torch Relay tackles second day on French soil in the crisp Mediterranean air

The Media Torch relay from the Paris Olympics Tells Whom You Know:
From Saint-Raphaël to Toulon and from the coast to the hinterland, the second leg of the Torch Relay, which visited the Var department, was a love letter to the Mediterranean. It was a stage fraught with emotions and action-packed moments in which culture, rugby and the group relay organised together with the French Disabled Sports Federation took centre stage. Marielle Goitschel, one of the most successful female Alpine skiers in history, carried the torch in Saint-Raphaël at the start of the day. Richard Virenque, one of the all-time greats of French cycling, and Domingo, a streamer with nearly 2 million followers, waved at the crowds lining the roads in Toulon. Charles Berling, an actor and folk hero from the region, lit the cauldron at the celebration venue in Toulon to wrap up the stage.

The Mediterranean permeates the towns and cities of Var, a department sprinkled with famous destinations for those eager to take a break from routine and recharge their batteries. It boasts a wide range of natural sites, running the whole gamut from the sea, rivers and lakes to mountains and forests. The Olympic torch offered a sneak peek of all these things during the day. The Olympic torch set out from Saint-Raphaël and hugged the coastline in Seyne-sur-Mer on its way to the Plage de l'Almanarre in Hyères, a favourite haunt for kitesurfers. It also ventured further inland and shone a light on the rich local heritage, zipping past the Olbia archaeological site in Hyères, the bastion of the Counts of Provence in Brignoles and the banks of Lac de Sainte-Croix, the third-largest lake in France.

Disabled sports at the heart of the group relay in Saint-Raphaël

The French Handisport Federation introduced spectators in the Centre for Sports Resources, Expertise and Performance (CREPS) in Boulouris to 24 of its licence-holders. The star of the day was Antoine Avati, a diehard football fan whose spastic diplegia has never stopped him from dreaming of winning a medal in the Games. At the tender age of 13, the captain got the action going at the helm of his team. Others included up-and-coming and established athletes such as Jean-Louis Boilot, who won bronze in the table tennis event at the Toronto Paralympic Games; the wheelchair rugby player Marion Parent; Charlotte Cocriamont, who earlier competed for France in boccia; Nicolas Jouanserre, a member of the French national wheelchair basketball team; and Makasidy Omar, who was on the team that represented France in the last Deaflympics. The group relay also paid tribute to people who work hard every day to beat the drum for disabled sports, such as Bernard Tassaro, who has channelled his energy into the parasport movement for more than 26 years, particularly on the Regional Parasport Committee of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur; as well as caregivers who support people with disabilities every day without fail, such as Mélanie Felz, a physiotherapist who leverages sport to help children with motor disabilities to bloom.
This symbolic occasion stands testament to the department's commitment to make sport accessible for all. In this sense, it is worth noting the Pomponiana Olbia Functional Rehabilitation Institute, which promotes inclusive sport for people with major disabilities. The take-home message is that everyone should be able to practise sport in a way that takes into account their abilities.

Toulon shines a spotlight on local culture and sports

A succession of more than 120 torchbearers completed the second leg of the Torch Relay in France, including local celebrities and athletes who have flown (and continue to fly) the flag for their region. Bernard Lemaître, the chairman of the Racing Club de Toulon, and Guillaume Mélenchon, the chairman of the Toulon Provence Méditerranée wheelchair rugby club, were the proud representatives of Toulon's rugby scene. The Alpine skiing champion Marielle Goitschel also made an appearance. A two-time Olympic gold medallist —including her triumph in the 1968 Games in Grenoble— and seven-time world champion, Marielle is a legend of sport in the Var department. Richard Virenque, who holds the record for the most victories in the king of the mountains classification of the Tour de France, made the crowds go wild in Toulon. A few slots later, it was Domingo, a streamer who is always up for a sporting challenge, who held the torch aloft.
The festivities continued at the celebration venue in Place de la Liberté. The actor and director Charles Berling, who leads the Théâtre Liberté in Toulon, ran the last segment of the stage and lit the cauldron!

A funambulist on the historic facades of Toulon and a Cultural Olympiad project

Antoine le Ménestrel treated thousands of people in Toulon and curious visitors to a couple of kaleidoscopic performances. The vertical dancer jumped from one roof to the next around Place de la Liberté before dancing on a zip wire spanning the entire square, from the Galeries Lafayette to the Grand Hôtel, for his Service à tous les étages show. The audience found itself at the heart of this experience, a full-blown artistic fusion of dance, street art, climbing and acrobatics. Later in the afternoon, the funambulist performed his  Lignes de vie  show on the facade of City Hall.
The Olympic torch will continue its journey in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department tomorrow. The highlights of the programme include a run around the citadel of Sisteron, a visit to the Haute-Provence Geopark and the Ubaye Valley, and the finish in Manosque, a Provençal town with character where the cauldron will be lit at the end of the day.
