Owner Alex Pritsos (the sixth edition) and his favorite, the fruit salad!
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know Pearl Diner, first featured earlier this year. Started by uncles of Alex's (the above Alex, the Dad, not to be confused with the son or grandson) wife in 1962, it has been an enduring family business in downtown Manhattan and in 2010, Alex Pritsos the 7th owns it along with his dad, Alex Pritsos the 6th, pictured above. The newest edition was born in 2025 and we suspect this Alex Pritsos, the 8th is the cutest yet! Maybe we will work with him someday.
Alex above likes the fruit salad with greek honey and greek yogurt and that is his favorite.
Peachy likes it straight, shown above, like she likes her single malts.
Every component was fresh.
The omelettes are among the strongest menu features in our experience thus far. We are told they use grade AA diner eggs and we were happy with the California Omelette, above: avocado, spinach and cheddar festively party on a plate with eggs of course. Real eggs. We are not into fake anything. Even better if you like fish and obviously we do, is the Lox and Onion, below, Peachy's favorite part of the review.
The Cobb Salad is a clear cut winner and note in all salad circumstances they gladly and carefully put the dressing on the side for Ms. Pretty Picky! Grilled chicken, bacon, jack cheese, tomato, hard boiled egg and croutons combine for a terrific combination that is sure to wow you if you are looking for a bite downtown. And we always suggest salads as part of your meal, not your whole meal. We are panini enthusiasts, and the New Yorker Panini boasts tremendous flavor when grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted peppers, tomatoes and oil and vinegar greet you with a smile: we really liked it. This is shown with delicious sweet potato fries that enhance anything you're eating!
As you know from Sensational Salads where we feature the very best Peachy's Picks, we love salad. Salad Matters. Salad is important. At Pearl Diner, we count eight choices which we applaud. Above, meet the Greek Salad! Greek people have a storied history of success on this website over the years and this edition features lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, green peppers and anchovies. Feta cheese is the confetti on the top and vinaigrette is the dressing (on the side, as we alluded to!). Spinach Salad is sure to please the Popeye in you with fresh spinach, sliced raw mushrooms, bacon bits and croutons.
The last hit was the Pearl Quesadilla featuring attractive grilled chicken, sensational sauteed mushrooms, mozzarella and on the side, crema and pico de gallo to hit the spot and make your lunch great again, especially on a Monday in downtown Manhattan. Note we never edit pictures! You excel like team Alex Pritsos (all of them!) or we cannot brag about you.
Also, it is a standalone building which is really saying something in terms of Manhattan real estate! We continue to look forward to seeing what they do next. And maybe we will meet Alex number 7 and Alex number 8.
