Executive Real Estate Inc., a full-service, multi-office boutique brokerage headquartered in Glastonbury, Conn., is the latest company to affiliate with the Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate brand.

The firm, now doing business as Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Executive Real Estate, is led by its founding broker, Amy Rio. Rio entered the Glastonbury real estate industry immediately after high school and has spent the past 39 years honing her craft. She opened her own company in 2005, growing the firm to nearly 120 affiliated sales professionals serving the entire state of Connecticut from offices in Glastonbury, Old Saybrook and Enfield. In that time, Rio has also earned several certifications and designations, including becoming a Certified Distressed Property Expert, a Certified Probate Real Estate Specialist and a Certified Investor Agent Specialist, among others.

Rio is joined in leadership by Kevin Greenberg, COO; Maggie Damato, CMO and training director; and Steve Ellis, CTO. Together, the leadership team and their affiliated agents have meticulously crafted the firm's reputation as a go-to resource for everything from luxury real estate assistance to new construction to commercial properties. Rio is also licensed in Florida, New York and Rhode Island, allowing for easier referrals across a broader network and paving the way for further expansion across four states.

As Rio's network continues to grow, so has her need for turnkey tools, technology, and systems, including a streamlined CRM to increase affiliated agent productivity and elevated marketing assets. One of the brokerage's founding values was the emphasis its affiliated agents place on offering boutique, hands-on service, regardless of how wide the firm's network grows to be. To Rio, affiliating with the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate brand represents her achieving "the best of both worlds," by providing the marketing power and support of a national brand, while maintaining the ability to deliver high-quality, individualized service.

#ConnecticutPeachy #HealthyPeachy A Leader in Quality: Hartford HealthCare's Hartford Surgery Center Earns Dual Advanced Orthopedic Certification in Total Joint Replacement and Complex Spine Surgery: a First in Connecticut

The Hartford HealthCare Hartford Surgery Center (HSC) has become the first ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in Connecticut, and one of only 10 in the nation to earn dual Advanced Orthopedic Certification in both Total Joint Replacement and Complex Spine Surgery, reaffirming Hartford HealthCare's national position as a leader in quality and safety.

Awarded by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), this prestigious certification recognizes ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) that demonstrate excellence across the entire continuum of orthopedic care including clinical quality, patient safety, surgical outcomes, and care coordination. "This dual certification reflects the unwavering commitment of our nurses, staff, and physicians to deliver the highest quality orthopedic care," said Cheryl Parent, RN, Administrator at HSC. "We are proud to be the first in the state and one of a select few in the country to achieve this level of recognition."

Founded in 2017, HSC is a joint venture ASC partnership with Hartford HealthCare, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, and Constitution Surgery Alliance (CSA). The facility features five advanced operating rooms and offers a wide range of outpatient orthopedic services, including hand, shoulder, knee, foot and ankle procedures, complex spine surgeries, total joint replacements, and pain management treatments.

Achieving dual Advanced Orthopedic Certification in Total Joint Replacement and Complex Spine surgery at HSC underscores Hartford HealthCare's ongoing mission to bring innovative, accessible, and top-tier care to all. "We are redefining what's possible in outpatient surgery," said Raymond Sullivan, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon and Medical Director at HSC. By earning certification in both total joint replacement and complex spine, HSC has demonstrated its ability to deliver best-in-class clinical and patient safety outcomes for high-acuity, technically advanced surgeries in an ambulatory environment.

"We are doing what few others in the region, or the nation, are doing in an ambulatory setting," said Steve Zhou, MD, Orthopedic Spine Surgeon and board member at HSC. "Spinal fusions, including robotics along with other high-acuity cases are safely and successfully performed here thanks to a team-based approach and the use of the latest innovations in outpatient surgery."

"This is a landmark achievement for outpatient orthopedic care in Connecticut," said Pietro Memmo, MD, President, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford. "Our teams at HSC are not only pioneering complex procedures like spinal fusions and joint replacements in the ambulatory setting, but they're also delivering personalized, data-driven care that sets a new standard for excellence across the country."

#ConnecticutPeachy #BigAppleBusiness @GlblCtzn Bridgewater Associates and Global Citizen Launch ‘Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge’

Bridgewater and Global Citizen Call on the Next Generation with Global Prediction Challenge to Evaluate Impacts of Economic Transformations

Winners to Receive Employment or Internship Opportunity at Bridgewater*

Bridgewater Associates, one of the largest, most successful hedge funds of all-time, in partnership with Global Citizen, the world’s leading international advocacy organisation, announced the launch of an ambitious new global economics challenge, Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge. This new global prediction challenge invites applicants from around the world to participate in Bridgewater’s idea meritocracy, where a good idea can come from anyone anywhere, to tackle one of the most significant global economic transformations of our time.

As the world transitions away from the era of globalisation that defined the last five decades, Bridgewater has identified a new paradigm emerging, Modern Mercantilism. Marked by rising protectionism and restructured trade relationships, this transformational shift is happening amidst the rise of rapidly evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence and is redefining global economic systems, institutions, and power structures.

In response to this global shift, Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge invites participants to analyse the impact of these changes in global trade, geopolitics, and technologies. Challenge submissions are asked to forecast which countries, sectors, or populations will be most affected by the transition to Modern Mercantilism, and to identify the risks and implications policymakers must prepare for in a world shaped by new rules, technologies, and global power structures.

Full submission and judging criteria are available here.

Bridgewater and Global Citizen will review submissions and select the top one hundred based on the quality of the forecast. Senior Investors at Bridgewater will then evaluate the finalists and award $25,000 to each of the top five submissions. *The winners will also receive an employment or internship opportunity at Bridgewater, pending successful completion of its interview requirements.

“As we live through one of the most significant paradigm shifts of our lifetimes, Bridgewater is more dedicated than ever to understand the impact it will have on markets and economies," said Nir Bar Dea, CEO, Bridgewater Associates. "We have always done that through having a great meritocracy where the best ideas win, no matter who they come from. Together with Global Citizen, we are looking for the brightest minds across the world to contribute their understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and to join us as we navigate the future of this new world order.”

“The world is entering a new era – defined by shifting alliances, disruptive technologies, and evolving global power structures. These changes bring both challenges and opportunities, especially for the world’s most vulnerable communities,” said Hugh Evans, Co-Founder & CEO, Global Citizen. “With Forecasting the Future, we’re inviting bold, data-driven ideas from around the world – because the next breakthrough insight can come from anyone, anywhere.”

Last year, Bridgewater and Global Citizen partnered to publish research supporting the World Bank’s IDA21 replenishment, helping secure a record $100 billion commitment. This year, the partnership expands through the Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge to tackle the world’s most pressing issues, driven by a shared belief that solving today’s biggest challenge, and unlocking tomorrow’s opportunities, requires a deep understanding of how the world is changing and the forces shaping our future.

More information about Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge can be found here. Closing date for submissions, August 1, 2025.

Connecticut Children’s and Xerox Partner to Introduce New, Innovative, AI-driven Technologies to Pediatric Healthcare

Connecticut Children’s and Xerox are reimagining pediatric healthcare with the help of cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Through an expanded partnership with Xerox, the health system is introducing AI-powered solutions to streamline care delivery and elevate patient outcomes.

From enabling emergency department nurses to prepare more effectively for procedures to using predictive analytics to reduce heart-related risks in pediatric cancer patients, AI is already transforming how Connecticut Children’s delivers care to its patients.

“Embracing advanced AI technologies allows us to give our caregivers the most precious resource of all—more time with their patients,” said Bob Duncan, Chief Operating Officer at Connecticut Children’s. “By adopting these innovative tools thoughtfully and strategically, Connecticut Children’s is reimagining pediatric healthcare, ensuring that the children and families of Connecticut and the region have access to a health system that is embracing technological advancements.”

Xerox, a long-standing partner of Connecticut Children’s, is developing AI-driven solutions for three key areas:Emergency Department Efficiency: AI-enabled recommendations will assist nurses by analyzing data from similar cases to suggest the necessary supplies and medications for common emergency cases and procedures. This technology will save time and ensure resources are even more quickly available to patients, families and physicians.
Cardiotoxicity Risk Prediction in Pediatric Oncology: Leveraging Connecticut Children’s research on the link between cardiotoxicity and pediatric cancer treatments, AI tools will allow providers to more quickly identify at-risk patients early and take preventative actions, improving long-term outcomes for young patients.
Census Forecasting: Connecticut Children’s will now leverage Xerox’s AI-driven predictive analytics to enhance census forecasting, enabling more accurate patient volume predictions, optimized resource allocation, cost efficiency, and improved patient care.

This partnership also includes Xerox becoming the sole print technology provider for Connecticut Children’s new clinical tower, opening late 2025, and expanding its role as a strategic IT services partner.

“Xerox is proud to collaborate with Connecticut Children’s to bring AI-powered solutions to life in ways that transform healthcare,” said Steve Bandrowczak, chief executive officer at Xerox. “Our work together not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports better decision-making and patient outcomes. This partnership represents a new frontier in healthcare innovation.”

As Connecticut Children’s continues to advance its vision of transforming children’s health and well-being as one team, its collaboration with Xerox exemplifies how forward-thinking partnerships and technology can create meaningful change.

"By integrating AI into our everyday processes, we’re empowering our teams to work smarter, not harder,” added Duncan. “This milestone is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation, compassion, and creating a healthier future for all children.”

#ConnecticutPeachy #LiteraryPeachy Greenwich Library Receives Landmark $5 Million Endowment to Support Signature Series Programming -- in Perpetuity

Greenwich Library, recognized as one of the nation's premier libraries and the most visited library in the state of Connecticut, has received a transformative $5 million endowment to support its acclaimed Signature Series programming. This is the largest endowment received by Greenwich Library in more than 30 years, marking a pivotal moment in the Library's history. The endowment, granted in perpetuity and provided by Greenwich residents Lynne and Richard Pasculano, underscores the enduring commitment to the advancement of culture, education and community enrichment.

The Greenwich Library Signature Series, which features four headline events annually, brings world-class speakers and thought leaders to the community to address topics of global significance. The 2025 season launched on February 20 with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Thomas Friedman, who offered a timely and powerful discussion about global affairs in today's rapidly changing world. A reception for Library supporters preceded the event, during which the Pasculano endowment was announced publicly, as well as a name change of the Signature Series to the Lynne and Richard Pasculano Signature Series. The endowment was also publicly announced at the start of the evening program.

"Supporting the Library's premier Signature Series with this endowment means that the Library will be able to continue to bring in incredible thought leaders who encourage important conversations on our world for many years to come." -- Lynne PasculanoPost this

This historic gift highlights Greenwich Library's role as a dynamic community hub, reflecting its evolution beyond traditional book collections to serve as a center for lifelong learning, innovative programming and civic engagement. The Library offers more than 2,200 programs annually, including author talks, children's early literacy programming, technology, entrepreneurship and investing programs, book groups, business services, meeting spaces, and even an innovation lab with 3D printing and robotics workshops. Greenwich Library is number one in the state of Connecticut in total circulation and also supports a robust digital collection, with 50% of its collection available in digital format to meet the demands of a modern and connected community.

"This endowment ensures that the Greenwich Library's Signature Series will continue to inspire and engage our community for generations to come," said Joseph Williams, director of Greenwich Library. "We are deeply grateful to Lynne and Richard Pasculano for their generosity and vision. Their gift underscores the changing role of libraries as cultural and educational cornerstones of society, and it allows us to expand our mission of fostering thoughtful discourse and discovery and continue it for generations to come."

Lynne and Richard Pasculano are longtime philanthropists and supporters of education and the arts, with significant contributions to institutions such as the New York Public Library and the Lincoln Center. Their dedication to Greenwich Library reflects their belief in the transformative power of libraries as community anchors, fostering access, innovation and engagement for all.

"We are deeply committed to the amazing programs that Greenwich Library and its staff bring to the community," noted Lynne Pasculano. "Supporting the Library's premier Signature Series with this endowment means that the Library will be able to continue to bring in incredible thought leaders who encourage important conversations on our world for many years to come. We are proud to support Greenwich Library and put these funds to use that will benefit the whole community."

The Pasculano endowment aligns with the Library's Reimagine project, a major 18-month renovation completed in 2021 that modernized spaces to support expanded programming and serve evolving community needs. Part of the renovation was a thoroughly and thoughtfully remodeled Berkley Theater, where the Signature Series programming is held. It was also through the Reimagine project that the Signature Series was born and is a major factor for bringing in some of the world's most creative thinkers to discuss current events, world affairs, climate and ecology, and other popular topics such as media, culinary and pop culture. Past Signature Series events included Doris Kearns Goodwin, Indra Nooyi, Mark Bittman, Tina Brown, Fareed Zakaria, Pete McBride, Jon Meacham, Melissa Clark, and other notable authors. The Greenwich Library Signature Series has been offered to community members at no charge due to the generous support of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees and now will continue through the support of the Pasculanos.

Greenwich Library has consistently set the standard of excellence with its large collections, extensive programs and record-breaking attendance numbers. It is recognized and respected as a model for libraries nationwide. As the number one most visited library in Connecticut, Greenwich Library exemplifies how libraries are redefining their roles in the 21st century.

"This endowment is not only a vote of confidence in our Signature Series but a validation of our libraries' critical role in our community," said Williams. "Libraries are places of connection, discovery, and learning and we're proud to lead the way."

Connecticut Wind Collaborative Launches Groundbreaking Study to Strengthen and Expand Offshore Wind Supply Chain in New England and Beyond

The Connecticut Wind Collaborative (CWC) is thrilled to announce the launch of the Connecticut Offshore Wind Industry Study. This gold-standard initiative aims to build upon the Connecticut Offshore Wind Strategic Roadmap by identifying and expanding supply chain opportunities for Connecticut and the Northeast region. The study will be led by Xodus and The Pew Charitable Trusts (Pew), renowned experts in supply chain analysis and offshore wind development, ensuring a high-caliber approach to fostering regional collaboration and economic growth.
Wind turbine components for Revolution Wind, developed by Ørsted to serve Connecticut and Rhode Island, are staged at State Pier in the Port of New London, CT.

The CWC OSW Industry Study is an ambitious, forward-looking effort to solidify Connecticut's position as a key player and regional collaborator in offshore wind. With a focus on addressing regional supply chain gaps, fostering regional collaboration, and supporting local manufacturers, the study promises to yield sustainable benefits for the state's manufacturing sector and contribute to long-term economic growth. Connecticut has played a pivotal role as a first mover in advancing the offshore wind industry with Connecticut businesses and workers contributing to every East Coast offshore wind project to date and State Pier in the Port of New London serving as a marshaling and assembly hub for three projects.

"Now is a critical time for state collaboration in order to build upon complementary strengths and answer shared challenges that will best enable the growth of a robust regional offshore wind industry," said Andy Logan, Head of Industry Development at Xodus. "This study will be unique in recognizing not only the powerful role Connecticut businesses play in the emergent offshore wind sector, but also the benefits of what can be further achieved when working in partnership with neighboring states to develop regional capability."

"Connecticut has the potential to be an important link in the offshore wind supply chain, a growing sector that can enable the state to add jobs and boost economic growth, while also helping the state make progress toward its clean energy goals. By evaluating its strengths and identifying areas for development, Connecticut is positioning itself to become a leader in this emerging industry and to help ensure the state is ready to meet future energy demand," said Courtney Durham Shane, Senior Officer, The Pew Charitable Trusts.

This initiative further reinforces Connecticut's commitment to renewable energy and highlights the state's role in supporting industry innovation across the region as offshore wind development gains momentum across the United States.

"Our goal with this study is to place Connecticut at the forefront of offshore wind supply chain development," said Kristin Urbach, Executive Director of the Connecticut Wind Collaborative. "This collaborative, regional research will serve as a foundation for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and supply chain enhancement — putting Connecticut and its neighbors in New York, New Jersey and all of New England on the map as leaders in renewable energy innovation."

"Connecticut's Blue Economy continues to play a pivotal role in supporting this new domestic clean energy ecosystem that is boosting local economies and spurring investment," said Paul Lavoie, Connecticut's Chief Manufacturing Officer. "This exciting initiative will bring stakeholders from across the region together to strengthen and expand our collective supply chain capabilities."

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development has contributed $70,000 to this initiative, and the Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region has contributed $50,000. Other industry partners have also provided funding.

The supply chain analysis expertise of Xodus combined with Pew's nonpartisan, in-depth research capabilities will ensure valuable, evidence-based insights to guide policymakers and industry stakeholders. Together, their contributions will provide data-driven recommendations for bolstering the sector's growth and resilience.

The study will feature robust stakeholder engagement and clear, actionable recommendations. The completed study is anticipated to be released in the Spring of 2025.

#ConnecticutPeachy #ChristmasPeachy Knights of Columbus Unveils Historic Crèche on New Haven Green

The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council celebrates the Christmas season with large-scale model of Christ's birth, to be unveiled in the heart of New Haven on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023.

What: The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council will open the Christmas season by placing a historic crèche on the New Haven Green prior to the city tree lighting on Thursday, Nov. 30.

Who: The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council

Where: New Haven Green, on the southeast corner (intersection of Church and Chapel streets), New Haven, CT

When: Monday, Nov. 27, 2023
*Rain date: Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023

The Knights of Columbus crèche, which represents the scene of Christ's birth, is a resin replica of a wooden crèche that was created by Mexican artist Agustin Parra and displayed outside of the Vatican throughout the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI. Parra also created a smaller version of the piece, specifically for the Knights, that is currently on display at the Knights' nearby Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center. The Knights of Columbus has displayed the crèche on the New Haven Green for over a decade.

The New Haven Green display accompanies the Pilgrimage Center's two seasonable exhibitions: Christmas in America and Celebrating 800 Years of the Crèche.

Christmas in America features crèches representing 18 North and South American countries and explores the traditions and festivities that have developed throughout both continents to celebrate the season. It is open to the public until Feb. 4, 2024.

Celebrating 800 Years of the Crèche honors the rich history of the Nativity as seen across the world, from small hand-carved figures made of wood to large-scale representations featuring over 150 figures and elaborate settings. Included in the exhibition are passages describing the moment in Greccio from Chapter 30 of Thomas de Celano's 1229 work The Life of Saint Francis, the very first biography of the saint, as well as Chapter 10 of St. Bonaventure's 1263 work The Life of St. Francis of Assisi. This exhibition will continue until March 24, 2024.

The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center, formerly the Knights of Columbus Museum, is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and is located at 1 State Street in New Haven. Admission and parking are free. More information is available at www.michaelmcgivneycenter.org or by calling 203-865-0400.

#ConnecticutPeachy @ConnecticutGrown CT Grown announces "Put CT Grown On Your Plate" healthy eating challenge

In honor of National Farmer's Day, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture and Governor Ned Lamont are asking Connecticut residents to incorporate locally grown and produced items into every meal this fall

This fall, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture's (CT DoAg) CT Grown program is challenging consumers across the state to "Put CT Grown On Your Plate," a new program that asks residents to make room on their plates for Connecticut-grown or produced foods at every meal.

This program serves as a reminder to all Connecticut residents that they have the opportunity to incorporate fresh, healthy, and delicious foods into their everyday diets while also supporting the state's agriculture and aquaculture communities.

"When you eat food that was grown in Connecticut, you are not only getting a nutritious meal but you are also supporting your neighbors who work in Connecticut's agriculture industry," Governor Ned Lamont said. "With more than a hundred farmers' markets operating across the state and dozens upon dozens of stores selling locally grown food, everyone has the opportunity to support Connecticut farmers."

Connecticut is home to more than 5,500 farms covering more than 380,000 acres. The state's agriculture industry supports 22,000 jobs in production, processing, or agribusiness and contributes approximately $4 billion to the state's economy each year. With more than 100 farmers' markets operating across the state, Connecticut consumers have access to fresh, local foods year-round. Eating local foods supports farmers and growers, bolsters the state's economy, and greatly benefits the general public health.

"Adding CT Grown foods to your meal plans is a great way to promote healthy eating habits while supporting our state's diverse array of farmers and producers," said Bryan P. Hurlburt, Commissioner of CT DoAg. "Incorporating these locally grown or made foods can be as simple as packing an apple or milk in your child's lunch box or seeking out the CT Grown logo at your local grocery store or dining venue."

Through a pair of programs — Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), Connecticut Grown food products are accessible to families of all income levels and budgets.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture strongly encourages people who receive SNAP benefits to use them at farmers' markets. Most markets accept these benefits, allowing them to be used for the purchase of fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey. Some markets help these benefits go even further by doubling benefits for fruit and vegetable purchases.

Most farmers' markets in Connecticut are affiliated with FMNP, which serves participants of Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and seniors over the age of 60 and meets income eligibility guidelines with funds through an app or card to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey. The FMNP program is accessible between July 1 and November 30 each year.

For regular updates to the program, please follow @ConnecticutGrown on Facebook and @ct.grown on Instagram.

About CT Grown

The mission of CT Grown is to sustain and grow Connecticut agriculture and aquaculture. The Connecticut Grown Program was developed by the State Department of Agriculture in 1986. Our now-familiar green and blue logo proudly identifies agriculture and aquaculture products from all over the state. Over the past three decades, the Connecticut Grown Program has blossomed into a multifaceted initiative supporting the diversity of Connecticut Grown products in local, regional, national, and international markets through both direct-to-consumer and wholesale-oriented program components.
